These stories take place before, during, and after the greatest war in Kaile's history, often referred to as the "Haram War". This is not a war of kings or conquerers, neither is it a war of power and politics. Instead, it is a war of the simplest kind; a race war, a clash of civilizations, and a battle for survival. Humanity, championed by the rising Haram Empire, brought the fight to the Illuthai and their close cousins the T'sari after the two latter parties appeared to be creating a common front. Thinking that they were striking a decisive blow before their opponents could organize, the Empire sparked a war that would last fifteen years, take millions of lives, and change the face of the world forever.

Kaile is a world filled with magic, not of the typical kind wherein physics and reality play no part, but instead of a very practical kind practiced by nearly every sentient being. Given that Kaile is technologically equivalent with our own Middle Ages, magic provides something of an escape from an otherwise stagnant world, and comes to shape the battlefield in ways previously thought impossible. Similarly, magic imbues the common man with an inherent power and while engines of steam and steel remain impossibilities, many of the roles filled by modern industry are instead occupied by magic wielding individuals and their own inventions. With magic providing for many basic needs, Kaile's population has risen far beyond that of any real medieval nation, and so when the Emperor called his people to war; millions answered.

Nobody was ready for the Haram War, despite what those first entering into it may have thought. Magic had advanced significantly in the centuries between the last great war and this one. As a result, the first four years were nothing less than a blood bath in which archaic tactics and strategies came up against the most modern of magical creations. Fire streaked from the skies and tore into the disciplined block formations once so highly prized by the Empire. The fierce and towering T'sari warriors were meaningless in the face of modern magical might. Thus, millions of beleaguered souls were confined to hastily dug trenches and earthworks on both sides, and the war and its nature changed drastically in a matter of months. Now victory came down to small elite squads of soldiers who could punch through enemy lines in key locations, or provide the reconnaissance necessary to carry on the war. These squads are where the majority of my characters come into play, and witness the greatest war in history from its height to its end.
