The heavenly light trickling in through the open window flickered, casting a shadow across the throne room. God himself eyed the outline of the darkness, recognition flowing through his veins.
"Lucifer," he says gently, as though calming a small child. In response to God speaking the angel's name, the heel of his boots thud against the wooden floor. An angel emerges from the gaping doorway caste of gold, his features strikingly perfect.
"God." The angel greeted in return, crossing his well-defined arms. "I've come with a message."
God released the breath he hadn't realized he was holding and tapped his bearded chin in thought. "Tell me, my loyal second. What is this message you bring to me at this hour."
Lucifer cracked open a smile, his perfect teeth gleaming in the heaven-sent light. "Many of the angels grow tired of your new subjects. They are weary of their makings, perhaps we can do away with what little you have created, sire."
God narrowed his mixed hues at the conniving angel before him, pure betrayal wearing on his features.
"I suppose I can count you amongst their numbers, Lucifer." His second-in-command merely remained silent, careful not to mention his intentions. "How many?"
"Two-hundred-and-fifty thousand strong, my lord. I fear with only one-hundred-and-fifty thousand left, you're outnumbered." God narrowed his eyes at the deceitful angel, attempting to hide his bewilderment.
"I should have known, Lucifer. In the end it was you who hungered for power." God stood from his golden throne, glaring at the scum before him. "Tell me, who leads this rebellion?"
Lucifer's perfect lips twisted into an ugly, jealous snarl. "Who do you reckon?" God felt his heart stop a beat or two. "Only your second could rustle enough feathers and cause an uproar."
God closed his eyelids, heaving a deep sigh. "You are a traitor, Lucifer. After this pointless battle is fought, I will seek justice for those you have betrayed and show you little mercy, as you have shown my own."
"Your mistake was allowing the abomination you have named Man to conquer your heart and leave little room for the angels who rule heaven alongside you." Lucifer glared daggers at the figurehead he once considered king, ruler, and perhaps even the closest to a father figure as he could get.
"God, creator of all things, life and death. I hereby sentence you to be dethroned, where I will take your place. I will re-paint the sky and realign the stars in my own image." He smirked, closing in on God. " I will take Man and squash the pitiful flame of it's life source. No longer will Man force itself on angels."
"Jealousy. That is what eats at you, Lucifer. What causes you to twist your very own core.I renounce you as the son of dawn. No longer look to the morning star for aid when your strength is lacking and your powers fall short of their full capability, for these two will no longer support a traitor of his own."
Lucifer cackled manically, "I need no foolish star nor dawn to strengthen me. I am stronger than even you who created me on my own."
"It is you who is foolish." God spoke, his tone tired and uninviting.
