*Grace's POV*

Dear diary, I was watching the news last night and saw another crash. A couple was driving out of Mystic Falls and they were attacked by an "animal". I know it wasn't an animal, it was a classic sign of another Vampire. One look at the couple on the tv you could tell that they were drained of blood. Great start to the new school year.

I close my diary with a sigh and lean against my window. It's cold for being so early in the morning. I'm worried about my best friend Elena Gilbert. She had just lost her parents in a car accident just a month ago. She's been struggling but is hiding it from us. But I know all about the struggles that life offers. They were good people.

I look through the window and see Elena in her window writing in her diary just like I was. I use my vamp speed to get dressed, grabbing my pre-made thermos of human blood, and ran over to Elena's house next door. When I walk in she was coming down the stairs.

"Honey, I'm home!" I exclaim with a smile and my arms up. Elena is startled and gives me a side hug in welcome.
"Toast. I can make toast. Morning Grey." Jenna says peeking out of the refrigerator giving us a small smile.
"It's all about the coffee, Aunt Jenna," Elena says pouring herself a coffee.
"Is there coffee?" a voice says behind me. I turn and find Jeremy Gilbert, the younger brother.
"Your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared. Lunch money?" Jenna says walking over to her purse, most likely getting money for them, while Jeremy walks over to Elena and takes the cup out of her hand. But she just grabs another. I walk to the other side of the kitchen island and mumbled, "You could have just asked."
"I'm good," Elena says and gives an annoyed look to Jeremy and makes herself another cup of coffee.
"Anything else? A number two pencil? What am I missing?" Jenna says.

"What about me?" I asked. "Where's my lunch money?" But I was ignored.
"Don't you have a big presentation today?"Elena asks with a look of confusion on her face.
"I'm meeting with my thesis advisor at...now. Crap!"Jenna says and pulls her hair out of its hair tie.
"Then go. We'll be fine."Elena says and Jenna leaves. Elena turns and looks at Jeremy. "You okay?" she asked with a sigh.
Jeremy scoffs and brings his lips to his cup of coffee. "Don't start," he said walking away.

I look at the TV and saw the two missing people. I call Bonnie and let her know that Elena and I were ready.

I look at Elena after I had hung up the phone call. "So Elena, how are coping with everything?" I asked.

Elena sighs as she takes a sip of her coffee. "I could be better. I just need to get through this day and not let anything bother me," she told me.

"Well, you have me, Bonnie, and Caroline. We are here for you." I inform her."

"I know," Elena said.

We hear a car horn and we instantly knew that it was Bonnie, letting us know that she was here. After saying goodbye to her brother, we hop into Bonnie's car.
"So Grams is telling me I'm psychic. Our ancestors were from Salem, witches and all that, I know, crazy, but she's going on and on about it, and I'm like, put this woman in a home already! But then I started thinking, I predicted Obama and I predicted Heath Ledger, and I still think Florida will break off and turn into little resort islands...Elena! Back in the car." Bonnie says while driving. Bad habit, that.
"I did it again, didn't I? I--I'm sorry, Bonnie. You were telling me that..."Elena says.
"That she could be psychic now, but I don't believe it," I say.

"But I am psychic," Bonnie told us.

"Right. Okay, then predict something. About me." Elena says
"I see..." Bonnie starts to say. All of a sudden, a crow hits the front window, and the girls freak out but I pretend to freak out.

"What was that?! Oh, my god! Elena, are you okay?" Bonnie asked, worried.
"It's okay. I'm fine." Elena said.

"Yep. I'm good too. Thanks for asking." I said rolling my eyes playfully.

"It was like a bird or something. It came out of nowhere." Bonnie
said with worry in her tone.

"Really, I can't be freaked out by cars for the rest of my life," Elena tells us, probably trying to convince herself that she was fine.

I can tell that Elena just wants to continue her life and not let the accident bother her.

"I predict this year is going to be kick-ass. And I predict all the sad and dark times are over and you are going to be beyond happy." Bonnie informs us and looked at the two of us with a small smile.

I turn my head to look outside the window to see the same bird that hit us on top of a road sign. Looks familiar...
