“Dude, it looks so dope!” I exclaimed pointing at Bays new septum piercing. “Did it hurt?” I asked. I hadn’t seen her since last night and it was now seven in the morning. Were both getting ready for classes. Earlier, she had walked in on me practicing horridly, cursing at my fingers. I was more than frustrated although it was finally all starting to make sense to me.
“Kind of,” Bay answered. “I think the clamp hurt more. Anyway, how was your lesson last night?”
“It was okay. Luke is a good teacher I’m just a bad student…” She still stared at me, wanting more of an answer. “Like, it’s really not that hard, but I guess I was expecting to become an expert overnight.”
“Don’t you play piano though?”
“Yeah,” I said.
“Then shouldn’t you know that it isn’t an ‘overnight’ thing?” She asked coking an eyebrow.
I sighed. “But I was little when I learned to play and wasn’t in collage.” I pointed out.
“Then just don’t go back,” she told me with a shrug.
The words tumble out of my mouth quickly, “But he’s hot!”
“Say what?” Bay spat out. “Iris, you’re going back and I’m going to help you get his D.”
I rolled my eyes at her comment. “But I don’t want his ‘D’ I want him.”
Bay crossed her arms and gave me a disapproving look. “You act like you’re in love with him when you just told me that he is just hot.”
“I never said just anything,” I chuckled. “But he is really hot and he has a cute laugh.” I smiled a bit to myself remembering his shy dimple, which only says hello when he laughs or smiles. Bay giggled then gets up to finish getting ready. I did the same, doing my regular makeup routine and picking out a comfy white loose top with white wash jeans. I quickly straightened my naturally wavy hair and then carefully placed my favorite beanie atop my head.
Bay and I stepped out of our small dorm and nearly ran into a tall boy with crazy red and black hair. He was wearing black jeans, black boots, and a red sweater, which suited him nicely. I mumble a sorry, but Bay and the boy seem to recognize each other. “Michael!” Bay exclaimed with a bright smile. They exchanged a quick embrace and then catch up as we walk down three flights of stairs. I used to play volleyball back in high school, but when we reach the bottom I find myself panting. I glance awkwardly at Michael and Bay, which Bay seems to notice.
“Oh my God, where are my manners? Michael, this is Bay my dorm mate.” She said, introducing us, grinning from ear to ear.
Michael smiled at me warmly. “Oh yeah, you’re the girl that Luke’s giving guitar lessons to, right?”
“How’d you know about that?” I asked, coolly. I tried to make it sound like it was no big deal, like it was just my curiosity getting the best of me, but my voice caught on the first syllable.
“Luke is one of my best mates,” he explained. “He told us about it right after you left.”
“Us?” I asked again.
“Me, Ashton, and Calum,” he told me with a chuckle. I mumbled an “oh” just was Michael said that he has to go. Bay and I said goodbye to him, then continue our trek to our first class: English II. This class was supposed to be Sophomore/Junior class, but since my major was English, my professors let me move up.
“Do you like him?” I asked just before we open the door to the lecture hall.
Bay, as usual seemed to be in her own universe, and looked surprised when she realized that we were footsteps from starting our stressful day. “Michael? Oh God—No! He was one of my first friends when I came to here Australia. He’s become kind of a brother to me.”
