"Great, You're both here," Larson said as Alex and I arrived. "The Behavioral Analysts from the FBI are in the conference room. Grab your case files and meet them in there." He walked off into the conference room as Alex and I went to our desks.
"I'm still sorry," Alex said.
"Let's just drop it for now. We need to be focused 100 percent on the case. No distractions." I continued collecting the files before shutting the drawer and walking off, Alex trailing behind me.
"Alright, Let's get started," Larson said as we entered the room. There were two people already sitting down that I didn't know. "This is our head detective, Emily Towning, and her partner, Alex Towning." Alex and I both gave light smiles as we sat down.Larson proceeded with introducing the two from the FBI. This is Agent Jason Smith." Directly in front of me was a guy who looked about 50 years old. He had brown hair, no facial hair, he was about 6'0. Directly to his left sat a young man, about 20. He brown hair that looked like it belonged on a little boy. He also was about 6'0. "This is Agent Spencer Williams."
"May I have the files?" The older Agent asked. I handed them across the table to him. The Agents split them up and looked through each file. The younger one was looking at them so fast I was sure he wasn't reading them.
"I'm sorry but, shouldn't you actually read the information to build a profile on the killer." Both agents smiled, the older one chuckled and tried to hide it before the younger one spoke.
"I have an eidetic memory and can read 20,000 words per minute, trust me, I'm retaining the information."
"Are you a genius or something?" Alex asked him.
"I wouldn't say genius..." Agent Williams spoke.
"He has an IQ of 192. He went to college at 12 and joined the FBI at 20. He has 4 Phds. I'd say he's a genius." The way agent Smith spoke showed that he was protective of the younger agent.
"They don't let you join the FBI until 23." Alex was still speaking.
"Agent Williams is special," Smith said before continuing to read the cases.
After an about 20 minutes of looking at the files, Agent Smith looked at me and said, "We're ready to deliver a profile."
"Your killer is organized. The fact that the UnSub, or Unknown Subject, is going after young girls indicates that the UnSub isn't confident. The fact that the UnSub is just killing the girls and not raping them could indicate the killer is female, but not guarantee it. The UnSub is killing girls from the high school so they most likely have a connection to the high school." Agent Smith told us.
"The UnSub is killing girls all the same age." Agent Williams spoke, not confidently.
"Does that mean the killer's the same age?" I asked
"Not necessarily. A more probable scenario is that something happened to the UnSub when they were 15 years of age."
The Killings started about two months ago, the UnSub's trigger probably happened a bit before they started killing." Smith said. "Our profile could be wrong on some parts, it could be wrong completely, you can't get a conviction based solely on this profile, you will need evidence."
Larson, Alex, and I left.
Alex and I were sitting at our desks, which are right next to each other when I heard my name being whispered.
"Em." It was Alex. I turned around to face him. "Last night, when you ran out of here, I made a copy of the files on Abby's case. Do you want them?"
"Yeah." Alex pulled them a file out of a drawer and handed it to me. I looked at the file. None of the information had changed, I knew it wouldn't. I decided that I wanted to show the behavioral analysts the case so they could confirm we were looking for the same killer. I knew it was the same killer, but I wanted them to tell me anyway.
"Hi," I said as I walked into the conference room. "I have another case, it's my daughters. Would you mind taking a look at it?"
"Of course."
"Thanks, agent Williams."
"Please, call me Spencer." I sat down next to Spencer and handed him the case file on Abby and the little boy. "You said it's your daughter?"
"Yeah. Not all the information is known, you should probably know all the information so you can make a more accurate profile, even though it's going to be the same as the other profile."
"You have more information? Please tell me."
"A few days before my daughter was... murdered, I got a text on my phone with a picture of a little boy. The text read 'I want all the information you have in the case of Cara Turner or the little boy dies. You have 24 hours."
"Did you tell anyone about this?"
"Another text came telling me if I did he would kill the little boy. The next day we had a case of the same little boy. I got a text later with my daughter and she would be killed if I didn't get the file to them. I got the file, was instructed to put it in the garbage can outside my house. I left and he switched the file with Abby's dead body."
"And you still didn't tell anyone about the texts?"
"Only my husband. He told the chief."
"Okay, well that is definitely not all in the profile."
A few minutes later Agent Williams started speaking.
"This UnSub contacted you directly, a detective, asking for information. That indicates they are confident. They felt comfortable talking to you, they probably know you personally or he feels that he does. The way they killed the two kids is the same as the serial killer, but this time the UnSub tortured his victims. The first UnSub is killing because he is on a mission, he has a goal. This UnSub enjoys the kill. He wants to make it last longer. While the sex of the first UnSub is still undetermined, this UnSub is definitely male."
"How can you tell?" I asked.
"A woman has a nurturing instinct when it comes to young children. No female would be able to torture and kill a child this young. This UnSub is more confident than the serial killer, the serial killer is on a mission, he has a motive for what he's doing while this killer just enjoys the kill. More than likely the two are partners since this UnSub demanded information in the case. They were looking to see how close you are to catching them. You definitely have two different UnSubs." I already knew the last part based on what he had been saying, but as soon as he said it, it hit me like a ton of bricks falling on my head.
