There once was a young couple, who were newly wed. The wife wanted nothing more than to give her loving husband the children he had always wanted. So they tried, and tried, and tried. Until the wife finally became pregnant. The young couple was overjoyed to finally be having a child, the wife loved the life growing in her womb. Then one day, the wife grew ill, and she was rushed to the hospital. The doctors talked in hushed tones, before telling the couple they had lost their child. Overcome with sadness, the couple went home. For weeks, the wife was full of grief, the husband would often wake at night to her crying in her sleep. The next day, after being woken yet again from his crying wife, the husband went out and returned with a bright eyed, orange kitten. He presented his wife with his gift, and she smiled in a way he hadn't seen in awhile. A few weeks later, the couple tried again for a child. And again she became pregnant, then, just as last time, the wife became ill. They rushed to the hospital where the doctors told them she had once more lost her child. Again the wife fell into grief for the loss of yet another child. A week later the husband left and then returned with a kitten, this one white as snow. As the years went on, the couple continued to suffer loss after loss. Doctors advised them to give up, but the couple continued to hope. By the time the wife had aged to the point of not being able to have children, the husband had given her a total of 12 cats. One for each of her children who slept with the Angels. Seeing how happy the animals made his wife, the husband continued to give her kittens, once a year on their anniversary. He continued for 7 years, then one day her husband suffered a heart attack. The wife was so overthrown with grief she shut herself away in her house. As the years went on, the wife, consumed by sadness, slowly lost her grip on reality. With nothing but her cats to keep her company, the old woman became crazed. In the end, the old woman passed away in her sleep with a smile on her lips, and surrounded by the animals she called her children.
