Preston's POV
~ I heard Rob lived. That's relieving.
"Hey Preston." Rob says as he walks into my room at the hospital.
"Rob, I'm really sorry. You don't need to forgive me. I'm over you now. It's too hard trying to make you love me. I'd rather be friends than not be in each other's lives." I say, staring at the IV in my arm.
"It's okay, Preston. I'm glad we're friends again." He says and smiles. Rob leaves and I'm left alone again. Will I ever find someone? I sigh as I flip through channels. Nothing interesting. I decide on Disney Channel since nothing else is on. I continue to stare at my hands and think. Does Rob mean what he said? I doubt he still wants to be my friend. He was probably only saying that.
No one wants me.
Mat's POV
~ "You have no idea how happy I am that you're alive." I say, staring dreamily into Rob's eyes.
"I feel very lucky." He says. I rest my head on his shoulder.
"I don't know what I'd do if you died...you saw how Mitch got depressed after his ex and mom died..." I whisper, my voice fading.
"Then you'd find someone else." Rob mumbles. I sit up and look into his eyes.
"Are you crazy?" I breathe.
"Mitch thought that girl Ashley was his true love and then he met Jerome." Rob says, not looking at me.
"Are you saying that we're not meant to be?" I ask, my voice breaking.
"No, no, but if I ever die-which I will one day-promise me you will never try to kill yourself, okay?" Rob says sternly, his eyes a solid chocolate-brown. I thought about that a lot; what I would do if Rob died...
"I promise." I whisper, half-truthful. Who knows?
~ A week later, Rob is allowed to leave the hospital. I forgave Preston, but it will take awhile to regain his trust. Mitch and Jerome had a party to celebrate. I didn't feel like it, but Rob wanted to.
[AT THE PARTY]
Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.
Except for Preston. He looks so lonely, standing there in the corner by himself. And now I know what I must do: find Preston a boyfriend.
