I pull myself out of the water, taking a giant breath.
"Oh my goodness!" I gasp, clutching my throat. "Why can't humans breathe under water?" I ask nobody. I look ahead and smile, seeing land.
I swim to the shore and attempt to pull myself up, failing miserably. I flop back into the shallow water. I sigh and try again, finally getting my 'legs' underneath me.
I smile and take a step, stumbling at first. I finally start walking a little better and I make it onto the shore, feeling the warm sand between my toes.
I look down and smile, laughing.
"Oh, this is amazing!" I shout.
I look ahead and see people... Actual people. They were walking, and some had small humans with them. But... They had something on they're body. It looked like cloth.
I looked down and noticed that I didn't have that... I didn't even have shells to put over my- Oh my gosh! What's that?!
I run over to it and see that it was a piece of fabric with a basket on it. I throw the basket out of the way and wrap the fabric around my body. I tried to make it look as good as some of the things that humans had on their bodies. It actually wasn't that bad.
I smile and walk towards the people, seeing tons of small buildings and things. I raise an eyebrow, seeing a furry creature, making the worst sound in the world. Was it sick?
"Come here, puppy!" A woman calls to the strange thing.
"Excuse me?" I ask the woman.
"Yes?" She asks.
"Do you know where... An accessory shop is?" I ask, unsure of what that meant.
"Oh! Just down the street. You see the little white building?" She asks, pointing. I look and see what she was talking about. I nod.
"Thank you!" I call to her, 'running' towards the building. It was more of a fast stumble.
I run into the store and walk down the small hallway like things. I finally spot something.
Socks!
I laugh and run towards them grabbing package after package. Once I can't carry any more, I go to run out of the shop but someone stops me.
"Um... You have to pay for those, Miss." He says.
I nod and walk over to him, placing the things down.
After he does something to them, he puts them in a bag. "That'll be eighty dollars."
I search myself for my sand dollars, finally finding them and giving them to the man.
"What... Are these?" He asks.
"Sand dollars." I answer, smiling.
"No, no, no. I need actual money."
"But... Didn't you say eighty dollars?" I ask, confused.
"I did, but I didn't mean whatever these are." He says.
"Sand dollars." I tell him.
"Whatever. If you can't pay for these, then you need to leave." He says, his tone sounded very angry.
Tears well up in my eyes and I run out of the shop, crying.
What did I do?
