Tossing and turning in my bed, I awoke for the fifth time in one night. I didn't know why but tonight I felt restless, everything was happening so quickly. I'd only been here a few days and already I'd been asked to stay at court, become one of the Queen's ladies and at the same time, I've received a threat from the people who most likely killed my family and wanted me next.
I finally decided I definitely wouldn't be able to get any more sleep so went in search of Nanna's room. She always had a way to make me feel better.
Grabbing a shawl, I opened the oak door and walked along the hallway, trying to distinguish Nanna's room, but they all looked the same at night and I didn't want to barge into a random person's room- especially at this time and in this attire.
Not wanting to go back to bed yet, I continued my walk down the hallway which was dimly lit by candles.
After continuing down for a while, I finally came across a door which looked significantly different to the others, it was much larger and had a sign beside it in what appeared to be... Latin?
Quietly, I tried to open the door, yet it still creaked from it's old age. Praying no one heard it, I continued to walk into the what now appeared as a very large room.
I grabbed a lantern that sat by the table and lifted it to get a proper look at the whole room.
Books and books filled the large dome like room, it was incredible. The glass dome provided some moonlight that focused on a giant globe in the middle of the circular room.
Taking the lantern with me, my feet took me to a shelf full of books, as I brought the lantern to it, I saw several books that I had read before.
A tear slid out of my eye as I remembered my love for books, It was something that my parents always encouraged. They felt that it was necessary for a woman to be educated and have a vast knowledge in order to be successful in the future.
If I was to stay here, I wanted to fulfil the dreams and ambitions that my parents had for me, after all, that was how they were such successful rulers, they did what they knew was right.
"You shouldn't be here." I jumped at this. Turning around, I looked for the owner of this deep voice. I slowly moved the lantern to take a look at who accompanied me in the beautiful library.
There, in what seemed to be a cosy armchair was Bromley. Lord Bromley. He sat there like he had been there for a while, this thought made me nervous, everything about him made me nervous- made me want to question every step I took.
"Neither should you." I said back, looking at him intently.
"Then I suppose we are both thieves of the night." He said with a ghost of a smirk on his face.
"No, you are. I'm merely an admirer of the night.... and books." I swallowed as he stood up and walked towards me. In confusion, I took a step back as he got closer to me.
He now stood in front of me, his eyes locked into mine, daring me to say a word. Somehow, he managed to lean even closer to me. I held my breath.
He leaned into me even more and by now I was certain he was going to touch my lips with his.
Yet, he did not. The arm that was above my head leaned into get the book from behind me, "If you like books, you'll love this one." He said, and looked as though he were about to laugh.
"That wasn't funny." I said, with the blankest of faces.
"What wasn't funny? I have no clue what you speak of my dear." My heart sped up a little faster at what he had called me.
