Hi! This is a You me At Six fanfiction, kinda badly written so sorry about that. I will put trigger warnings if I need to just in case. Until then, Enjoy!

It was always hard being the music freak; the girl who would trip over tables to volunteer a song to learn in music class. But when I moved to Weybridge, something was different. I met six awesome people who understood my love of music. They understood how it felt when a steady rhythm seemed to relax you. When you hear that song and everything changes. But most importantly, they understood how it felt to be misunderstood.

“SCOUT! GET YOUR ASS OUT OF BED!” I heard my older brother yell from downstairs.

“I’LL BE UP IN A MINUTE ASSHAT,” was my reply. Jackson was one year my senior, and we were as close as anything. We were both what teachers, parents, and adults in general would call ‘child prodigies,’ but at very different things. Jack was always amazing at maths and science, whereas I excelled at pretty much anything to do with English and music. It seemed that any advantage we had to others intellectually was equal to our complete failure at anything to do with physical education. I.E: we sucked at gym.

Although we were often mistaken as nerds, geeks and teachers pets by people who had never met us, the reality would shock you. We grew up on the rock scene in Sheffield with a punk for a mum and a tattoo artist for a dad. We hung out with the punks at our old high school (often skipping class, not that it mattered anyway,) to smoke and drink in an abandoned multi-story car park on the outskirt of town. There were hundreds of us, from different schools all over the city, all dressed in black denim and leather, Hair dyed, eyeliner on, all covering any space left on the grey concrete in colourful graffiti. It was a good life, but when mum died and dad lost his parlour, we couldn’t bear to stay there. So dad bought a flat above his new business.

I rolled out of bed and landed with a loud thump.  Dad had told me the night before that there was no uniform at this school, so I could wear whatever the hell I wanted. After taking a hot shower, I decided on black skinny jeans, a Slipknot shirt and a dark blue Blink-182 sweater that covered my hands.  My make-up consisted of pale foundation, powder and black and white eyeliner and mascara. I then applied cherry chapstick and straightened my blonde hair. I wasn’t sure of how long it was going to stay blonde. I was thinking blue, maybe red.

I still had half an hour before I would skate to school with Jackson, so I made myself a cup of strong coffee and had a cigarette before brushing my teeth. I pulled on a pair of purple converse and grabbed my board when I saw Jackson walking down the stairs. It's time.
