Lucia kept pacing back and forth, too worried for Alex's well beings. The past hours had been the most nerve-wrecking and difficult hours of Lucia's life. She had never, ever, ever, felt this nervous before, not even when she was doing her finals that decides if she will be a doctor or even when she did her first operation on a patient. She had tried to get some information from all the nurses and doctors that would occasionally come out of the operating room, but didn't receive any luck, which of course made her even more anxious.
A part of her wished that Alex was in the hospital she's working in, so she could actually help out, but deep down she knew she would be a nervous-wreck ball and would instead cause even further unnecessary chaos in the operating theatre. Even if she had a million of practices and professional doctor training before, never had once those practice prepared her to operate on her own husband. For gods sake, she might be a professional doctor but she was still a human who had feelings too.
After two more long, ghastly hours of constant pacing back and forth, the doctor finally came out of the operating theatre, his hair disheveled, face looking extremely tired, and shoulderd slightly slumped down. Lucia hurriedly rushed to the doctor, unable to control her nerves any longer. The doctor's facial expression didn't help Lucia the slightest bit, his face showed nothing, no signs of happiness or sadness, it was just blank canvas.
"Oh Lucia! I'm sorry for why happened to your husband. I'm really glad to meet you again, although I wished it wasn't under this circumstances." The doctor's facial expression changed drastically upon seeing Lucia, the slight frown on his face now replaced with tiny smile.
"Likewise Blake. It's been years, but we can catch up later." Lucia said a twitch of smile on her face, before turning serious again and said, "Right now I really need to know about my husbands condition. How's he?"
"Oh, right, my apologies! I'm not going to sugercoat anything as you know the drill already. He flat-lined once when we were operating him, but his condition is stable now. He had two broken left ribs, a broken right leg, a broken right wrist as well as lots of bruises and I had to stitch his head close as it was banged up pretty bad. I believe he also experienced head trauma, I'm so sorry Lucia. Amenesia is a common thing for patients who experience a head trauma so I'm just warning you that it is possible that he might have amnessia though we wouldn't be sure if it's temporary or permanent ones. I had also given him some blood transfusion earlier and kept him in high dose of morphine because of his injuries, so he will be knocked out." Blake explained
"I- can I see him?" She asked, voice barely a whisper
"Yes, be patient though Lucia. Follow me." Blake motioned for me to follow along and we stopped at a room numbered 258.
"Alright" Lucia said and came inside Alex's room. As she came closer to Alex, his hazel eyes fluttered open slowly, looking to his surroundings in confusion. He loooked like a lost puppy.
"W-who are you? Go away! What are you doing here? Where am I? Ouch." Alex's voice came out raspy and winced as he moved his left leg.
"Shh, it's alright Lex. Don't be scared it's just me Lucia. You don't remember me?" Lucia asked, dreading the answer. She didn't want her nightmares to come true.
"Hmm? What? No- am i supoosed to? Are you a part of my life? My sister? My cousin? My friend? I'm sorry I couldn't remember you lady, but you are really pretty though and I feel like I wanna hold you in my arms. I hope you're not a family member, or it would be awkward. I really like you lady." Alex said groggily, only half concious.
"I'm not a family member, don't worry. I-I'm your wife, Lex" Lucia said sadly, even though she smiled at how Alex still loved her even if he didn't remember who she was.
"Am I Lex? And what? I'm married with you pretty lady? Am I dreaming?" Alex asked, head nodding off
"Yeah, your name is Alexander, but your nickname is Lex. And you're not dreaming love" Lucia said stroking his hair, the morphine must have made Alex really blunt.
"Oh! Will you marry me then beautiful lady? I know you said you're my wife, but I don't remember marrying you and I want to marry you so bad" Alex whined, but before Lucia could answer he had fell asleep.
"Oh Alex" Lucia said
When Alex woke up, he immidiately poke Lucia, trying to wake her up. He smiled when she woke up looking confuse.
"Hi pretty lady! I wanna ask why I'm in a hospital"
"Well, Alex, you got into a car accident and experienced some head trauma-"
"Car accident? How? I can't remember." He said and tried to remember the past events, but failed. It instead hurt his head loads, giving him a headache.
"It's okay, Lex. It's normal not to remember things. Don't force yourself, just relax and give your head time to heal." Lucia said softly
"Hmm, but if I don't remember things how can I believe you? I know you're a pretty lady that I adored and all but I need you to give me a reason for me to believe you." Alex childishly said, pouting cutely, Lucia need to hold back her urge to coo.
"Alex, I am you wife. We are married, alright?" Lucia said
"But I can't remember anything. I can't, Argh. Why can't I remember anything?" Alex pout, frustated with himself
"Just calm down, Lex. Take deep breaths okay? Follow me, just like that" Lucia said and Alex copied her breathing.
"So I am married to you pretty lady and you are my wife? ouch!" He said and hold his head because his small headache turned into full blown throbbing headache from all the thinkinh he had done.
"Yeah, that's right. Does your head hurt love?" Lucia asked going into her doctor mode
"Mhmm. Make it go away pretty lady." Alex said childishly, making Lucia laugh.
"Sure thing love. Good thing yours truly here is a doctor!" Lucia said, increasing the morphine level, "Here is your food love. You have to eat to be healthy. Can you eat it by yourself or do you want me to help you?"
"Thank you pretty doctor, but can eat by myself." Alex said and take a scoop of his food but his hands were shaking and ended up spilling it to the tray.
"Your hands are shaking, love. Here, let me help you. Okay?" She said and take the spoon and asked Alex to open his mouth.
"Hey pretty doctor, what is your name again? Lu..Lau..Laura? Lauren?" Alex asked looking confused.
"Lucia, my name is Lucia."
"Oh you said that you are my wife?"
"Yes. Don't force yourself to remember it's okay."
"Yeah, but I really want to know." Alex whinned
"It's okay Lex, the doctor said it takes time to get your memory back"
"But how do I know that you are my wife? That you are not lying?" He asked the question again, probably for the hundredth time that day.
"First of all, you can ask the hospital or whatnot. Second, I have our marriage certificate, it's in our house. Third, I have lots of collection of our photos together"
"Okay, um, can you leave me alone please?" Alex asked quietly, not knowing whatelse to do. He was just so confused with all the new information he had been given and needed time to slowly process them all as his head throbbed again.
"Oh- yeah, sure. I-I will be outside." Lucia said sadly and went out.
