(Frisk's POV)
"Yo! You're back!" called out a small, sharp, shrill voice that I knew very well. Trudging through the snow, past the Christmas tree, I turned around.
"Hey!" I said, and before I could even say another word, Monster Kid flung into me, pulling me into a hug.
"I'm so glad to see you again!" they said, and I grinned.
"Me too! But hey, is it okay if see an old friend first? I'm kinda late." I said, and Monster Kid grinned.
"Sure, dude! See ya later! So glad you're back!!" Monster Kid yelled as they ran away, tripping and falling on their face in the soft snow, then picking themselves back up.
I took a deep breath. Then, without a knock, I opened the door. It was the middle of the night, and I didn't want to wake them up, not yet of course.
Papyrus was fast asleep on the couch, thrill snores coming from him. I smiled. Papyrus, always the silly one. Of course he couldn't stay awake...aw.
I silently opened Sans' door, and he was asleep too. I wanted to talk to him so badly, but he looked so peaceful sleeping. So I simply sat on the foot of the bed and watched him sleep with a small smile on my face.
I didn't do this forever, just for a few moments. But, I have to say, every second was worth it. I gently nudged Sans' shoulder, and he looked at me, in a groggy and confused state. Suddenly, his body perked up, and he jumped up, pulling me into a tight hug.
It was longer than the average hug, probably around five minutes we just spent embracing each other, the happiness to see each other again overwhelming our hearts. But, for some reason, it seemed bittersweet.
"I'm so, so glad to see you! You have no idea!" I quietly exclaimed, not wanting to wake Papyrus, but clearly showing my excitement.
"Me too..." Sans muttered quietly, not letting go. His grip was tight, but I didn't mind. But even with the warm, happy feeling I felt in my heart, I could tell that something was up with Sans. Something was bothering him, deep down inside.
I didn't want to mention it, though. I didn't want to sour this happy moment.
"So, how have you been?" I asked excitedly, and Sans grinned, clearly covering up something.
"Alright. I've missed you, though." Sans said, and I gave him a weak smile. Was that why it seemed like he was a bit gloomy? Because he had missed me so much?
"Aww...I missed you too Sans. More than you know." I said, and Sans looked straight at me, deep into my eyes as if searching for something, his skeletal hand grazing my cheek and jaw.
"Do you remember...?" he muttered under his breath, and I crinkled my eyebrows in confusion.
"What?" I asked, and Sans dropped his hand, and looked away.
"Nothing..." he muttered. I didn't know what to do or say for him, but I felt bad just sitting there.
"Is everything okay, Sans?" I asked cautiously, moving my hand to cover his on the bed. He suddenly turned to me, looking me deep into my eyes again.
"You really don't remember...do you?"
