"Heres your caramel latte with soy milk, just as order", I smiled pushing the coffee cup towards the woman in front of the counter.
She stood there ignoring my presence as she stared at her phone, gripping it as if it were her life. I cleared my throat and pushed the cup more in her direction which finally got her attention.
"That'll be-", I began to speak before I was rudely interrupted by her throwing a twenty dollar bill on the counter before walking out of the diner.
"Jokes on you bitch", I muttered to myself opening the register, "It was only $7". I placed the twenty in the register, pulled out a ten for myself, leaving the other three and shoved it into my pocket.
I walked towards the kitchen in the back and pulled off my apron revealing my white longsleeve crop top and black high waisted skinny jeans. I hung it up and clocked out.
"I'm out Nic", I called to my co worker, pulling my shoulder length curly hair out of its ponytail.
"Alrighty", he called to me as he made what looked like flapjacks.
I ran over to him and kissed his cheek as he flipped a pancake. He lifted one arm and ruffled my hair as he always had before he kissed my forehead to bid good bye.
He was definitely like the older brother I never had but always wanted. Although he was ten years older than me, being thirty and had wife with a four year old daughter, he surely had a pretty young mind set which I loved.
I waved once more before running out of the door, to the parking lot, into my car and driving away from the diner.
I turned on the radio with one hand, as I drove and began to sing along to the song it was playing.
"I spy with my little eye, a-", I stopped singing once my passenger's door opened and a man dressed in all black including a black ski mask hopped into my car, slamming the door shut behind him.
In a matter of milliseconds, I felt a cold hard object being placed against my head.
"Drive", he commanded.
Frozen, my heart hammering in my chest, I watched as my hands began to shake in their hold on the driver's wheel.
"I said drive", he yelled this time, nudging the gun against my temple, and that's all it took. With a screech, I jabbed my foot onto the gas and the car jerked forward, building speed quickly as I made my way onto the highway.
"Shit, shit, shit", I heard him grumble as I swerved between car that honked at me as their only way of saying "hey, what the fuck".
"What's your name", I heard him speak, slowly pulling the gun away from my head.
"Vanessa", I stated, my voice shaking with every syllable.
"Ok, Vanessa, I'm going to need your help, ok?", He asked.
Help... Did he just ask for help?
Before I could retort, a small voice popped into my head. "The daily challenge", It said, sounding a lot like Zora, "Do something you wouldn't without thinking".
Cursing at the stupid decision, I nodded.
"There are people following us", he told me and in reflex, I glanced in my side mirrors to see two large vans with completely tinted windows following us, not too far behind.
"We gotta get away", he voiced, "Ok?".
Releasing a heavy breath I nodded, swerving between two cars, "Ok".
"Ok?", he asked, some what stunned at my cooperation.
"Ok", I yelled impatiently, jerking the car in front of another quickly, causing him to hit his head on the dashboard.
