Matt, Edd, and Tom were sitting on the couch while Tord was out. Matt turned to Edd.
"Hey Edd? Where's Tord?"
Edd took a sip of his cola and turned to Matt.
"He said that he'd be back in a day or two. Week tops. He said that he's going to work."
"Oh, okay."
Tom's eyes turned wide. Tord had told him the he was the leader or the reds. (Red army) Tom got up and went into the back yard. He took out his phone and dialed Tord's number.
Ring...
Ring...
Ring...
Rin-
"Hey Tom, what's up-" Tom cut him off.
"Really? You couldn't tell all of us that you were leaving? "
"Sorry, didn't know you'd worry about me. I'm fine, just catching up on some- oh my god THOMAS GET-"
The phone went to static and the dial tone could be heard, then, line cut off.
"Tord? Tord! Tord?!" Tom went back inside and went over to Edd and Matt.
Tom was about to sit down until a siren or some type of alarm went off on the tv, and all three of their phones. A loud high-pitched sound started and the an explosion of some type hit. The ground and house started to shake.
"GET DOWN!" Tom screamed. The three bolted under tables and countertops. They covers their necks and back of their heads. Tom tried calling Tord again. No answer. The warning came back on their screen. They all looked at each other with horrified faces and ran to a table together. All their phones lost service and the screens turned to black, all unable to be turned back on.
They huddled together for what felt like hours until the noises stopped.
Edd got up. "I'm going to check the window and see if I can see anything." He walked to a window and peeked through the curtains.
Nothing.
Every house and building in sight was desolate. All the trees and plants where on fire or burned. The nearest buildings where either destroyed or abandoned. The nearest life or civilization could be miles away.
Edd sat down next to them.
"It's a ghost town out there. We were lucky to not be badly affected by the blast, but there's a few problems that I'm sure your both aware of." The boys looked at Edd.
"First, We can't go outside until the air clears up a little but even then, we still would need gas masks. The air is highly toxic. Second, I'm not sure of how hot or how cold it is outside. So let's assume cold since the smoke and clouds in the atmosphere are blocking out most of the sun. Third, we don't have any service. Meaning we can't call, use the internet, and we don't have any contact with anything and anyone." Edd sighed.
Matt looked worried. "Wait, so what about Tord? How do we know if he's okay?!" Tom sighed.
"He's okay, trust me. For now, we need to look around the house for anything and everything we can use to survive. We went grocery shopping yesterday so we're okay for a few days on food. But we still need good clothes and stuff like that. I'll check the attic, Matt check the first floor of the house, Edd second floor. We good?" Tom asked.
Matt and Edd nodded and the boys started searching.
Tom climbed into the attic and coughed a few times from the dust. He turned on the lights and gasped slightly. Tord had a whole office or lab of some sort up here. The walls were lined with papers, documents, and blueprints. There where two different desks and an other assortment of things. But the thing that caught Toms eye where the boxes in the corner labeled 'Masks'. He searched through the box and found gas masks and other types. He searched other boxes and found an assortment of guns, knives, ammo and bullets, and a few other weapons.
"What the fuck..." Tom said under his breath and looked over them. He put three masks into the big box of weapons and carried the box downstairs where Matt was waiting with a few things that he and Edd found.
"Guys, you might want to take a look at this..."Edd said, staring out of the window.
