"Listen, princess, you may be smart, but you must know this is a dumb argument. Slytherin is not better than Gryffindor. Okay? We're brave, and loyal. Slytherin is just cunning. I mean, sure, it's a good quality, but let's be real, the ones who will conquer the world will be the Gryffindors."

"Yeah, you're right, Nyx. Gryffindors are loyal and brave, but if you've read the books, you know that they get in trouble the most. So, when you find yourself in trouble, I'll be there to bail you out because Slytherins are clever, cunning and we actually think our actions through before we jump right into something."

Nyx's jaw dropped, and she scoffed, appalled. She stopped walking in the middle of the hallway, gaping at her platinum blonde friend.

"Um, excuse you, I think my actions plenty through, thank you very much. And I do not get into troub---"

"What the hell is going on with you McCall?!"

Instinctively, Nyx turned to the voice that had called one of her last names. Jackson had shoved Scott against the lockers, his face contorted in anger.

Rory looked in the same direction as Nyx, eyebrows furrowing at the scene before her. She knew this could not mean good news, especially if Scott was involved. Already, she could see the confusion fading from her friend's face, the color of anger replacing it, creeping up her face and getting bolder as they watched.

"What's going on with me? You really wanna know? Well, so would I! Because I can see, hear and smell things that I shouldn't be able to see, hear and smell. I do things that should be impossible, I'm sleepwalking three miles into the middle of the woods, and I'm pretty much convinced that I'm totally out of my freaking mind!" Both girls heard Scott say, loudly.

Jackson stood in stunned silence for a moment, then he chuckled.

"You think you're funny. Don't you, McCall?" He asked, almost too low to hear. "I know you're hiding something. I'm gonna find out what it is. I don't care how long--"

"No, he doesn't. Really, the poor boy can't crack a good joke to save his life. I, on the other hand, think I'm pretty freaking hilarious. Wouldn't you agree, Rory?" Nyx called out, an infuriating smirk painted on her face. It was the kind of smirk that made teachers yell "don't do it!"

Rory stood frozen, eyebrows raised, debating on whether or not to engage in the upcoming fight. Her shorter friend chuckled, never taking her eyes off Jackson.

"I know, I know, my amazing sense of humor is indescribable by words. Exactly what I meant to express, my dear Rory. You know what's the best joke around here, though? Whittmore over there. I mean, he really thinks he can hurt my brother and get away with it," she laughed.

"Stay out of this, Nyx. It's none of your business." Jackson told her, a cold look on his face. Nyx snorted.

"Yeah, right. And my hair grows out in the colors of the rainbow." She snarked. "Let him go, Jackass, and I'll let you walk away with minor damage."

Jackson considered his options. He knew getting into a fight with Nyx right before the first elimination was a bad idea, especially because everyone knew that she could pack a punch. She might've been one third of a foot shorter than him, but she had a lot of force in her, and she still managed to look intimidating. Jackson didn't fear her, but he knew that if he fought with her, he would not walk away unscratched.

He glared at Scott one last time, punched the locker beside his head, and let him go.

"This isn't the end of this, McCall," he sneered, turning around and walking to the door that led to the lacrosse field.
