Later that day (late morning)

(at the dining table)

(servants stand on both sides of the room while the king and young Aaric sit at the table)

Aaric : (Stares at his food with disinterest and pokes it with a fork)

The king : (Staring at Aaric)

Aaric : (Looks at the king with his penetrating eyes)

The king : (Quickly looks away)

Aaric : (Stares apathetically at the king)

The king : (nervous)

Aaric : (Keeps staring)

The king : Stop staring at me you little brat! (Storms out of the room)

Servants : (Glance at each other)

Aaric : (Gets up and follows the king while showing no emotion)

At the doorway to the king's chambers

Aaric : (Knocks on the door)

The king : You may enter.

Aaric : (Steps into the room)

The king : Aaric, what are you doing here?

Aaric : I just want to apologise for being a disappointment to you.

The king : A disappointment? What gave you that idea?

Aaric : Well...........you looked at me just like mom does,so I can see that I disappoint you dad.

The king : (In his mind : He got all of that just by analyzing my eyes?!)

Aaric : Dad?

The king : Aaric, please don't call me that.

Aaric : What? But why? Aren't you my dad?

The king : Just leave me alone for a while........please Aaric.

Aaric : (Steps out of the room and goes to his room)

In Aaric's room

(Aaric sits on his bed)

Aaric : (whispers : ) Don't hate me like mom does, please don't .....................dad.

(A tear runs down his cheek)
