The king : Enter.

Servant : My king. The prince is waiting for you in the entertainment room.

The king : For what reason?

Servant : For his birthday party sir. He is 13 today and wants you to attend the celebration.

The king : Tell him that i'm busy and won't be able to make it.

Servant : But sir, you haven't been to any of his birthday parties since he was eight! It would break his heart if-

The king : Enough. You don't have the right to lecture your king.

Servant : I got carried away, forgive me your highness.

The king : I did get him a present this year. On your way back, take it out of the study and give it to him.

Servant : Of course.(turns to leave)

The king : (sighs)

In the entertainment room

(The servant walks in)

Aaric : (Looks up at the servant) Is he comming this time?

Servant : N- no, i'm afraid not young prince.

Aaric : Oh. I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up.

Servant : Don't be sad yet your highness, your father got you a present.

Aaric : Are you serious? My father got me a present? Are you sure you didn't hit your head on the way here?

Servant : I'm not mistaken, and i have the box to prove it. (puts the box on Aaric's lap)

Aaric : I can't believe it............a present from dad. I thought i would never get one from him for the rest of my life. (unties the ribbon and tears off the wrapping)

(a tabby cat jumps out of the box and hops onto Aaric's shoulder)

Aaric : It's a cat! (strokes the cat)

Servant : And it came with a note. Would you like me to read it for you?

Aaric : (cuddling the cat) Yes please.

Servant : To prince Aaric, so you won't be lonely. From the king.

Aaric : ( holds up the cat and smiles at it)

Servant : ( in his mind : Oh my goodness! That's the first time i 've seen him smile in years! )

Aaric : I'll name you Taffy.
