It had been 5 months before the two former friends met again. Exchanging a tiny battle of wits with one another, neither actually gaining anything from the fitful conversations.
"I see you made it through to first once again in academics, Kuromi," Holly hisses.
"I know, I have noticed you made it first in athletics once more as well, Holly," Kuromi replied, her voice filled equally with her hatred of Holly. With an almost unnoticed paling of her face, Kuromi quickly spins, to walk away, Holly narrowed her eyes, having noticed the uncharacteristic color of Kuromi's face, and her almost invisible wobble when she spun. She
didn't miss the tense grip of Kuromi's fists, but instead missed the longing look in her already lonely right eye."I wish, I wish I could just tell her how much she once meant to me," Holly whispered, before slowly walking away. An obedient Loki following behind, pondering the confrontations from Kuromi and Holly, and the quiet whispers he heard from both girls each time.
"Did you know her, Kuromi, when you were younger? I remember you had mentioned something about a best friend?" Loki asked, quietly, barely being heard by Holly as she continued to slowly walk away from where she had been arguing with Kuromi just seconds before.
"Yes," Holly replied. Loki's eyes widened, she had sounded sad, worried, hurt, even guilty, about something as she had answered.
"I knew her quite well, we were once like sisters, if you could even believe it," Holly stopped speaking then, and Loki didn't bother to pester her anymore, knowing Holly wouldn't go any deeper into the conversation than she already had.
Loki quickly patted her shoulder, attempting to offer comfort, hopefully he succeeded as he noticed her body quickly relax. And she threw a kind smile back towards him.
"I'll be fine, I just need to remember that we aren't the ones they called 'the lover duet' anymore, that was 2 years ago, I just need to get over it, I can already guarantee it won't happen again," Holly spoke quickly, clapping her hands together in an almost prayer like appearance before throwing them in front of, making it look like she had grabbed something and thrown it.
Loki merely watched, knowing what had happened would not be the end. And that it would never end until the two had apologized. He truly wondered then, if she was the same child Holly had told him about, when he was only 7, and Holly's older sister was still alive. He'd never learned how Alya had died, just that she died, and she had taken something away from his best friend.
