Another Bat Abandoned

Virgil couldn't believe it until she bust through the door of her mother's house. She had known that he'd be getting out the psych ward today... apparently they had decided he was stable enough to not have the restrictions. They were wrong.

There, on the kitchen floor, lying in a puddle of his own blood... was Drake. Drake, her brother. Drake, her best friend. Drake, her mortal enemy. Drake... was dead. He had slitted his own wrists an hour after coming home. Home. Just like Virgil, Drake would never think of this house as home. They would never think of any house as home. They had been each other's half-home... but now she didn't even have that.

Virgil shattered. She was grieving. She was furious. She didn't know what to do. So she turned and left just as her mother spotted her.

Not knowing where else to go, she zetaed back to the cave. Robin sidled up, undaunted by the glowering expression she wore.

"Let's spar."

"No."

He turned his puppy dog eyes up to his cousin, only to be met with a writhing ball of darkness in hers before they were cold steel again. His own eyes widened.

"Please?"

Virgil needed to blow off some steam anyway. She glared at him. Everyone in the room swallowed. Not even Batman could beat that glare.

"Fine." She stepped up to the platform, Robin facing her and cackling.

She made the first move. He dodged and swung. She dodged. For a good while they were at a stalemate. Until...

"So why'd you have to leave so suddenly?" The question from Wally was all Virgil needed to beat Robin. A swell of grief and anger erupted out of her, and as she screamed she managed to pin Robin to the mat. A tear slipped out of her eye and landed delicately on Dick's cheek. Virgil was shaking as she blinked away the tears and stood.

A small, "Wow," slipped out of the speedster.

"Don't talk to me, and don't ask questions." She turned and left, the room staring after her as she locked herself in her room.
