Ch 6:
The lost glimmer
The amulet around Flakes neck showed a strange flickering light, pale blue, but dim. What happened next was more then Annabell could have expected. NOT TRUE, SURELY IT'S NOT REAL, she thought, rather hesitantly.
Flake's amulet, glowed! And shimmered! And shined! Sparks flew! She yelped in excitement! This had to mean he could be leader again, that she had only a twinge of worry but ignored it, Flake was ALIVE!!! She could tell the clan, she could regain Clairese's trust in her! THIS IS GREAT!!! She thought excited and relieved.
But then the amulet faded until it no longer glowed bright, but it showed the former dim lighted amulet. Annabell waited, and waited, and waited, and waited until three days later at the mere brink of dawn, it grew dimmer until all it was, was a tiny shimmer that too faded before dawn. THAT'S IT! She cried, THAT'S THE END! She thought angrily and sorrowfully whimpering.
NO HOPE! NO RIGHT! NO LIFE! NO... FLAKE!
