I couldn't find the sent, but I did pick up the sent of something else: a boy. Not Scott, for I had no idea where he was. But a boy.
The next day I smelt him on my way to school, and realized the sent led there.
His name was Thomas.
God was he gorgeous. He was tall, with dark brown hair, and out standing blue-gray eyes. Just perfect.
Lunch finally came along that day, and on the way to my locker, my friend Nora yelled to me, "come on!"
"Give me a sec! I'm coming!" I called back, attempting to pry my jammed locker open. And the split second it flew open, Thomas was walking past me. It would have slammed into his face, but he luckily caught it with his left hand.
"Oh my God! Are you okay?" I said apologetically.
Though his hand was swelling, he replied with a smile, "Um, yeah. I think so."
I blushed, then laughed, " swear I didn't try to kill you with my locker." I then reached forward and carefully grabbed his injured hand. "Wow, I hit you kinda hard, you should probably go see the nurse."
"Nah, I'll be fine. Hey, since you're the only person I've talked to today, can I sit at your lunch table?" He asked, now also blushing.
"Yeah," I replied smiling.
We walked I the lunch table in silence, and Nora was looking at me as if I had a second nose.
About to sit down, Thomas said, "oh crap, I forgot my money in my locker, I'll be right back."
Watching him trot off with a pencil in his mouth, I caught a glimpse of Nora out of the corner of my eye. "What?"
"When you have time, wipe the drool from your chin," she replied.
I looked at her in shock, "I HAVE DROOL ON MY CHIN!?"
She roles her eyes, "no dork, your not drooling, just stop acting like Cupid just shot you!"
"Nora, have you seen him?"
"No. I've been blind since birth and I'm just now telling you. Yes I've seen him! Now be quiet, he's coming back." She said sarcastically, then seriously.
"Hey again," Thomas said as he sat down one seat apart from me.
Nora then reached out her right hand, "Hi newbie, I'm Nora. And I'm guessing you've already met Joanna."
He shook her hand, saying, "Nice to meet you, I'm Thomas, and yes. So that's your name?"
"Yeah," I replied. "Sorry I forgot to mention it when I nearly killed you with my locker."
He laughed, "That's okay."
Nora spoke back up, "So where you move here from?"
"Minnesota, but you probably wouldn't know where that is."
Nora then put her face in her palms, "you have no idea what you jut got into."
Thomas looked at me with a worried glance.
"No, Nora just means that I would know where that is, because I was born there." I said, reassuringly.
"Oh. Okay, that makes more sense. So where in Minnesota? I'm from Pinestone, it's about a hour drive from Duluth." Thomas replied
"Wow, I used to live in Giant. That's not even a half hour from Pinestone."
We talked untill lunch was over, and even then we kept talking. I eventually asked him, "What class are you suppose to be in?"
He pulled a schedule out of his pocket, "Um, study hall with Mr. Homs"
I shrugged, "Yeah, you're fine. I'm supposed to be in that class too."

The next few weeks were peaceful. I rarely shifted, Thomas and I became better friends, Dolan had stopped shutting me out (it was like we were actually brother and sister again), and I hadn't seen Scott. I worried for him, but somehow I knew he was okay.
