Of Fangs and Teeth

Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.

Pure adrenaline rush in my every vein, pushing my heart to its cardiac greatest extent, as my legs bolt through the field of land. My bare feet slam hard and loud against the cold ground, grass prickling and tiny twigs pricking beneath no longer a concern of mine.

I breathe in and out rashly through my mouth, taking a hold of all the oxygen I can take. Growls are everywhere, for what it seems like humans at first sight, shift into their wolves when I cross them. Shouts of warning intended for me and the patrol guards resonate across the whole yard, but nothing holds me back.

Suddenly, as if my stamina has depleted into rock bottom, my breath turns ragged, harsh and laboured, my lungs falling apart as it stops cooperating to the way that I want it to. The muscles of my calves begin to cramp up, and a searing pain crawls up to my thighs and hips.

The wolves are on my tail, with one of them snapping its teeth at my feet, so I do a little spin to kick it by the jaw and takes off into the border of the open lawn, dashing through the bountiful woods, where most of the light has vanished, blocked by the thick leaves. Rodents scurry off to their homes upon sensing the vibrations of my loud footsteps. I veer deeper into the unknown, not knowing how long I have been on the run, but the further I get, the more the growls subside into serenity and complete silence.

I jog to a stop, giving my legs a bit of a break and look behind me, noticing that none of them has gone to chase after me. Panting, I put my hands on my knees and lean the weight of my body on it.

Soon my knees begin to tremble, unable to hold the burden. With the warm humidity of the area, my body seems to emit more sweat than before, and my head begins to spin from the suffocating atmosphere. Beads of the sweat form on my forehead and neck, strands of my hair already latched onto it.

I look around me, where the woods are dim, with some corners dark and unexplored. I try to peer through the abundant lumps of leaves and see where the sun is at. Based by its current position, it is about past noon, closing in to the evening hours, and the moon is nearly visible.

With a sharp exhale of a breath, I push my body up and ignore the cries of my muscles, jogging away into the woods.

Snap !

My head whips towards the origin of the sound, but before I can even blink, the creature advances on me with agile movements that are too brisk for my human eyes to see. It takes no more than a second before the beast hauls me down onto the ground.

Razor-sharp fangs impel towards my face, a warning given to me not to move a muscle so I comply. I can't even if I want to— the poison is preventing me. He takes that chance to shift back to his human form, naked and angry on top of me.

"Killing one of my pack members isn't enough for you, is it ?" he growls, his deep voice as masculine as ever, sending the familiar shivers throughout my body.

Staring up into his eyes, I take in the pandemonium present in the pair of cavernous golden. The effect of the place darkens the features of his face, but despite that, the expression that he has does not go unnoticed.

So much dismay, so much wrath, that they seem to flair with ire.

It crazes me in a way that I don't understand.

"You should have just let me go," I say quickly, my voice a bit shaky under him, "Now you'll regret your decision."

He chuckles, emitting a cynical vibe around him. "I have no intentions of letting you go from the start, regardless of what you say," he sneers and I take a glimpse of the gleaming pair of trenchant fangs, "So you shouldn't even think of trying to run away from me."
