Valentino's POV

"I must say," Nathan chuckles as soon as we enter my office, "She is quite the ribald person, Rolfe. Absolutely far from your taste of women."

"Yes," I say plainly, "I've noticed that."

I close the mahogany door with a forceful slam, showing him that I do not like talking about my mate and stalling my time, or even his unannounced visit. The grin on his lips turns into a smirk as I make my way behind the desk.

"And I've also noticed that you weren't listening to me properly when I told you to get out of my sight, and never show yourself before me again," I snipped harshly, staring sharply into his eyes.

He sighs, but his mouth remains quirked. "So hostile," he clicks his tongue, "You realize, I am not a threat to you, yes ?"

Upon hearing that gibberish thing that comes out from his mouth disgracefully, I seethe, remembering all the memories of the past that we share, which are unfortunately, full of betrayal and darkness beyond the abyss herself.

"You are a nobody to me," I try to hold back the growl, but jeer at his attitude as he roams around the room, "Just state your business and leave."

"I need some assistance, if you may."

Immediately, I give him a nasty-looking scowl, "I am not giving you any of my aid."

"Oh, I didn't say I needed yours, did I ?" he raises his brows, and I let him continue. "Say, there is a wolf of valuable use to me in your custody," he mentions, "And I am fully aware that you will insist on tribute, which, I find it as perfectly agreeable. How soon can we make the arrangements for me to have him ?"

There is a pregnant silence in the room as I try think of anybody good enough in the Underground to have him interested in him, to the point he would come on his own. "What use is he for you ?" I inspect his motives firsthand.

Nathan's eyes, though fixed at me, but the smirk he has falls into a smile. He puckers his lips before he answers, "Hunting reasons."

There is one thing that I know far better than anyone else about Nathan.

He smiles when he lies.

"Give me one damn good reason why I should give you what you want," I say, the muscles of my body already twitching in annoyance and irritation. He might have fooled me that one time, but he will never fool me again, even if he tries his best to eloquently bribe me with his all.

He shrugs, "I have information."

"We are not negotiating," I reject his offer straightforwardly. "Should I emphasize you of your current status as a fugitive, Nathan ? No less than a wanted criminal, hunted down for treason and murder," I remind him of his guilt, "With a bounty on your head, there are plenty of reasons to warn those associates of yours about your reputations."

His empty, solid eyes stare at me apathetically, as if he has grown accustomed for being the bad guy. Blowing out a lengthy sigh, I speak of the truth in accordance to what reality conceives, making clear of my point, "I will have to refuse. Do see yourself out of my office, and my territory."

Instead of footsteps heading for the exit, I hear a snort from him. "Sounds fair if you feel disturbed about the trust we used to share," he says, "Then, I will be in touch for another time soon."

Although I learn the hard way that a man like him will never stop at nothing to have his hands latched onto his target, but I let him off. There are far greater things that I have to deal with right now, and I wish not to waste my time over this visit. Once he shuts the door of my office, I slump on the chair, breathing deeply in and out to calm the triggered wolf residing within me.
