CHAPTER 2. alone

Previously

I rush downstair to see a Nappa, the one we saw in town bite into her neck and see the life draining from my mothers eyes.

Blinded with rage I charge towards the Nappa and shove it's head into the wall and plunge the knife into its skull. 

I collapse to the ground, tears fogging my eye sight as I grab my now dead mother and hug her screaming out to the world.

Hayley runs up to me and hugs me and Aaron just stands there staring in shock of the scene that just unfolded before him. 

Crying hysterically into Hayley's shoulder I take a shaky breath.

"We need to bury her."

Crying softly I shakily stand to my feet and hug Hayley who is crying too. Hayley's parents died in a car crash when she was little and we took her into our family so I can only image what she must be feeling.

The darkness of the storm matches my emotions as heavy rain sets in.

------------- TIME SKIP------------

As Aaron places the final bit of dirt over my mothers grave, Hayley and I are sobbing uncontrollably and clinging onto each other as the realisation sets in that we are now truly alone. Our "camp" setup in the house has been totally destroyed, wooden boards covering the entries are broken in half on the floor along with furniture. A mess.

"We can't stay here anymore. We have to find somewhere to go for the night, its almost dark" Aaron says softly 

I look up through teary eyes and blink them away. "Ok, grab everything we need and lets go" I choke out.

We pack our stuff with soft tears falling down my face as I grab whatever we need for wherever we are going. Walking out of the house the the yard I meet up with everyone and we get onto the roofs and head towards the parklands north of our abandoned camp. We were about 1km away from town for supplies and on a hill in a small clearing in the parklands.

"We should get in a tree for the night, it would be safer." Hayley suggests

I just nod in response and walk to one of the tall pine trees and begin to climb it as Hayley and Aaron climb up the ones next to mine. Aaron's blonde hair and pale skin is very easily identifiable against Hayley and I which has helped in many different situations.

As the sun sets, I stare of into the distance and slow tears run down my face as I relive the afternoon we had. I use a bit of rope to tie my waist against the trunk of the tree and shrug on a jumper out of my pack and lean back against the trunk of the tree and drift off to sleep

I wake up with a jolt and start to panic before I realise where I am and a wave of sadness flows over me. I look at my old watch and realise it's 3:38 in the morning and glance over to the trees where Aaron and Hayley should be before I realise that both are missing. In a panic I quickly untie myself and scramble down the tree before jumping the last bit and yelling their names, not caring who or what would hear me.

I can't lose them too

I start sprinting towards the town centre thinking it would be the most logical way to go as I run towards the town I round a corner before a hand grabs me and pulls me into the alley behind me and shoves a hand over my mouth. I try to scream and get away but it is no use.

"If you don't want to be eaten alive I suggest you quiet down" the voice says before about five Nappas shuffle past the dark alley and I freeze and stop screaming.

As the shuffling subsides the hand lifts of my mouth and I take a shaky breath and turn around to face the stranger. The stranger is a guy who is probably 6"4, brown hair and blue eyes with semi tan skin. 

"Now who are you and what are you doing out at night? You seem like someone who should know not to." He states looking confused

"Well who are you? and what are you doing out at night?" I reply back equally confused

"I asked you first." He replies 

"Middle school comeback? Wow." I shoot back

He laughs and shakes his head slightly

"I'm Sophia and i'm looking for my frie- Oh my God!! I need to find them! They were missing from where we were staying the night" I say in a panic

"Hey, hey, hey slow down! What do they look like?" 

"Umm one girl looks very similar but a bit taller and a guy with blonde hair and pale skin! Have you seen them?" I say

We hear shuffling and groaning coming closer. "Ok well we have to run or else we won't be alive to find them" He says as he grabs my arm and drags me of running to the end of the alley

"It's a dead end!?" I exclaim

"Nope" He pulls down a ladder that was folded and attached to the wall making a loud bang as we hurry to climb up it as we see two Nappas start running towards us.

"HURRY UP!" He yells and grabs my hand from the top of the ladder and pulls me up just before one of the Nappas gets to the ladder. He pulls up the ladder and looks me over in concern.

"We have to get out of here now" Blue eyes says 

"No my frien-" I stop and stare at him

"Trust me we will find them but right now we have to go," he says pulling my arm

"Where are we even going? Who even are you!" Trying to resist him pulling me however he is much stronger than I am.

"I'm Dylan. Now we really have to go, the rest of the team can help you find them." He tugs me along the roof.

Blue eyes or Dylan drags me across a bunch of roofs deeper into town until we approach a old church with a tall roof and all the windows were blocked off. He jumps up to a ledge and reaches for my hand, I cross my arms.

"Where are we, what are we doing here and I need to find my friends! something bad could have happened to them!" 

Dylan sighs "Look, we will find them as soon as the sun comes up but if you want to be Nappa dessert then you better come inside" 

"Fine, but as soon as the sun comes up we go and find them." I state, giving him my hand as he helps my up to the open window.
