to sneak away and hide
"EXACTLY WHY DID YOU TRESPASS ON MY TERRITORY, KATHRYN?" Gabriel didn't look pleased in the slightest. My heart was pounding at a million miles per hour, sweat felt like it was about to burst through my skin and I could feel my entire body heating up. My lips were frozen – Gabriel's tone was short and harsh.
"Gabe, play nice," turning my attention to Micah, I had no clue how to react. Their relationship was odd – nothing like the one held by my father and Mark. It was always formal; in fact, my family were the only ones who didn't need to address my dad with his title, "And it's Kitty, not Kathryn, right?"
"Uh, right," I nodded, my voice small. Cursing myself, I took in a deep breath. I could do this. I had to do this – the fate of Gabriel and his pack rested on my shoulders. This awful journey couldn't be for nothing!
"Take your time," Gabriel sat back in his chair, his lips in a thin line, "It's not like I have things to be doing right now."
"Dude," Micah hissed. Gabriel turned to the side, and growled slightly at Micah who didn't look bothered in the slightest, "Can you not see that they've been through a lot to get here? Stop being so pissy and just listen."
Their relationship had taken me aback – Eden let out a small gasp too. We weren't used to this behaviour. Dad had always raised us to listen to the alpha and never question him – an alpha was usually right. No-one had the authority to order the alpha around.
Eden's elbow jabbing into my side reminded me that I had been silent. Trying to stand a little straighter, I tried to ignore the feeling of everyone's eyes boring into me.
"Alpha Redford," my voice was quivering and I hated it. Ignoring it, I continued on, "I beg you to reconsider your rejection to my father's invitation. He's not a nice man, and those who reject him face serious consequences."
"An alpha declining another is common. It's not my fault if your father cannot accept it."
"He sees it as disrespect. Those who dare to disrespect him pay the price," did Gabriel seriously not understand? Everyone was well aware of my father's actions! Even I'd been punished for disobeying him – and mine was a light punishment. I'd no idea what he'd to do Gabriel or his pack! "You must have heard about some of the things he's done?" Desperation seeped into my tone but I didn't care.
"I'm sure I have. Why not tell us all though? You must have some private stories that no-one else knows?" Gabriel smiled, but it was devoid of any emotion. My stomach churned. Flashbacks from two years ago replayed in my head, and I had to bite my lip to distract myself.
