Saphira's P.O.V
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! My alarm clock beeped at me, angrily. I groaned, rolled over and slammed my hand down on the off button. Just five more minutes, I thought. I won't be late. A moment later my mother's shrill voice shrieked up the stairs. "SAPHIRA! GET UP NOW! YOU WILL BE LATE FOR SCHOOL!"
I complained loudly but sat up and checked my alarm. 8 o'clock! Crap! I can't be late on the first day! I leapt out of bed and quickly got dressed, quickly selecting a pair of black jean shorts and a white tank top. I then applied my makeup as fast as I could without looking like a clown, and braided my irritatingly frizzy, black hair out of my face.
I rushed downstairs and grabbed my backpack, whilst simultaneously trying to pull on my black leather jacket. I pulled on a pair of black ankle boots and legged it to the kitchen where I shoved a large packet of chilli crisps and a breakfast bar into the back pack. "Keys." Said my mother tonelessly, and slid them across the table. I grabbed them and opened the door. I checked the time on my phone. 8:45. "Bye mum!" I called and ran across the street to Starbucks.
I ordered a Cappuccino with double caffeine shots and waited impatiently. "There you go, that will be £2.99. " I pushed the money over the counter and grabbed my drink. "One penny change, thank you." The lady said and handed me a penny. "Thanks." I said and cannonballed out of the door.
I checked the clock on my phone. 8:55! I have five minutes to get to class! I sprinted up the road towards the grey, miserable building that is known as birch wood high school.
I ran down the corridor and just about made it maths class in one piece. The bell rang just as I stepped through the door. The teacher looked up at me, and so did the entire class. "Saphira Lawrence, late." Growled the teacher, mrs Saunders, who always took maths. "Bu-but I was in the door before the bell rang!" Mrs Saunders glared. "Detention." She growled.
"What for!?"
"Double detention" I opened my mouth to protest again. "Do you want to make that a triple detention?" I glared at her and trudged over to my desk. She smiled at me, smugly. Asshat. I thought. "Right class, pop quiz!" She exclaimed. The entire classroom shook with groans from the kids. Well, at least it isn't double maths.I pulled the schedule out of my backpack and checked it. Double maths with Mrs Saunders. Great. How could the first day of school get any worse? Now I've got ages until the Christmas holidays. Why? Why me!? What have I done to deserve this!?
Mrs Saunders drifted around the class-room handing out maths tests. "Okay class, your test today is on algebraic topology, which you studied last year." Last year? I hardly remember what I had for breakfast, let alone what I learned from last year! I guess I haven't learnt anything if I can't remember it... Another groan rippled through the classroom. "One more groan, and the entire class will have a detention after school today. " said mrs Saunders, maliciously. All most all of the students started muttering swear words, and their hatred for their teacher. "That also goes for talking!" It's gonna be a long day...

At twelve thirty the bell finally rang and everyone got up and rushed to the door. "The bell doesn't dismiss you, I do!" Shrieked mrs Saunders. Everyone muttered but slid back into their seats. As soon as everyone sat done mrs Saunders dismissed us. "Wait, come and hand back your tests NOW!" She yelled just as we started to walk out of the door.
I heard more than a few swear words as we left the classroom. A good friend of mine, a boy called Alex Simpson, stuck his fingers up at mrs Saunders as he left. She saw this, but never saw who the culprit was, therefore, she couldn't do anything about it.
