Like demons, they mocked him. Like angels, they treated him. This was the vicious cycle. He was pure, too pure for the company he kept, but that never mattered to him. He loved them, worshiped them, gave everything to them. Even when they spat on his kindness, drank greedily from his generosity, and forsook his love, he never turned his back.
Perhaps that was his downfall.
Needing and wanting were foreign concepts if it didn't involve those he loved. He never wanted or needed for anything that didn't directly involve them. How could he? They were his everything. So when they desired the chalice, their want became his need. He wasted no time in retrieving it for them. They wasted no time in drinking deeply from the enticing, whisky filled cup that promised fortune and everlasting beauty.
The chalice wasted no time in dragging them to hell.
Hell was where they belonged, but it was not where they remained. Instead, like the fallen they learned from, they went back to him and abused his loyalty. His devotion became their game. How far would he go for them? How much would he sacrifice? His happiness? His sanity?
His life?
Kiss me. One muttered into his ear. It's all I've ever wanted from you. It was the first time he hesitated, but they continued to press.
Kiss me. I promise I'll be kind.
Kiss me. Things will be different this time.
Indeed, this time things were different, but the promise of kindness was left as empty as his unbeating heart.
In the end it wasn't the kiss that damned him. It was his love.
For them he would sacrifice all three.
