Harry POV

My heart was racing, my palms sweating and my eyes focused on the only person I’d ever give my heart to. He was staring back at me with those beautiful eyes of his and all I could think was—this couldn’t be real. He wouldn’t forget, he couldn’t forget. He told me he never would.

He promised.

“N-niall?” I stuttered, my hand reaching out for him, but he just moved back, his face scrunching up in confusion. It couldn’t be true, it just… it couldn’t. “Baby?”

His eyes widened a bit at that and I thought for sure, for sure I’d gotten through to him. I had to, he wouldn’t forget me, but instead of saying anything he just turned to stare at Perrie, his gaze flickering back and forth between the two of us, as he whispered quietly to her. I could only watch on, my heart falling to pieces in my chest as I watched, and only watched.

“Excuse me, Mr. Styles?” I glanced back towards the door, to find a man with thick framed glasses and messy orange hair staring at me, I glanced back towards Niall once more, his face still scrunched up at bit, his eyes no longer looking at me, before I moved to the man in the doorway.

“Yes?” My voice cracked, my hands were already shaking, this was too much, this was all too much.

“Can I have a word with you in the hall please, sir?” I nodded heavily, following behind him, and glancing once more at Niall before letting the door shut behind me.

It was loud and nosy out in the hall, and I found myself getting even sweatier out in the hustle and bustle. This wasn’t supposed to be happening. We were getting married, he was going to marry me—we were—fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck fuck! This has to be a nightmare, this can’t be happening, this can’t be real. This has to be a nightmare. Wake up Harry, wake the fuck up and kiss your fiancé. I pinched my arm multiple times, each time harder than the last, but no matter how many times I did it, I didn’t wake up. I was still standing in the hospital outside of Niall’s room with a man in front of me who was now looking at me with sullen eyes, and I just gave up.

This was reality, and I was stuck in it.

“Hello Mr. Styles, I’m Dr. Sheeran, but you can call me Ed.” Ed stuck his hand out, and I shook it lightly, my hands shaking extensively but he didn’t make comment—thank God.
