The city of Uplistsikhe is a rock citadel fortress. The fun here is in exploring the carefully chiselled out caves and seeing the wine cellars, the burial pits and Queen Tamar's Hall. You can see the stone shelves and picture an ancient people storing things on them. Very little is out of bounds which adds to the joy of discovery.
Tips:
Coffee, food and cold drinks are all available in the car park.
Entry is cheap. 5 GEL per adult. 1 GEL for children older than 6 years.
Headphones to guide you through the park are advertised. We did not hire them so I am not sure of the quality or languages available. Anyone know?
Very early on, you reach a sign banning drinks and food. A bin is helpfully provided for disposing anything you have brought.
