"So your my best friend, Emma?" I ask. "Yeah, um yeah I am." She looks down, tears strolling down her cheeks. "I'm really sorry, this must be hard for you." She glances up and stares at my face. "My best friend doesn't remember who the hell I am, yeah I guess you could say it's hard." She buries her head in hands. I gulp. "Look, Emma. You come here everyday, right?" She looks at me again. "Everyday, hoping you remember who I am". "Well, how about next time, you bring some things along, and maybe trigger some memories?" I ask hopefully. Emma's face turns much happier than the state she was. "Maybe you could stay here the night?" I look hopeful at Michelle. She nods and goes to find a bed. By now, Emma has the biggest smile on her face and is dancing around the room. I crack up laughing. Michelle comes back with some blankets and pillows and extends my bed. I move over and Emma hops on my bed. Michelle gives her some ice cream and smiles. "You two look like you've won the lottery!" She laughs and leaves us to our privacy. Emma brings out her phone and starts texting. "I'm gonna text my mum to spend the night here". I nod. "She's gonna bring round some things from my room of you and I and some games." I smile. I'm extremely glad that I have made her happy, but I'm also worried that I won't remember anything and disappoint her, and that's the last thing I want to do.
A few minutes later, an older version of Emma walks in. She smiles kindly and starts speaking another language to Emma. Emma nods and waves her off and turns to face me. "Hopefully these things will trigger your memory and make you remember your past." I nod. She lays out a watch, picture frame, a card and a couple of photos. "This-" Holding up the watch "-is what I gave you for our second Christmas, in year 7. I had a matching one that was turquoise. You loved this watch, you would wear it everywhere but now the battery's dead so you can't use it". I take the watch from her hands and analyse it. "It's beautiful, how much?" "35 dollars." I stop smiling. "35 dollars?!!? Are you crazy!?" She laughs at my reaction. "You know, that was the exact same reaction you had when I first gave you this." I smile. I pick up the picture frame, it has multiple pictures of us and in the middle there is some writing. "Best friend: Noun - Knows how crazy you are and still chooses to be with you in public no matter how embarrassing you can be // A sister that god didn't give you because otherwise you mother would go nuts // Synonyms : Twin, Partner in Crime, Sister." I look her in the eye. "This is beautiful, I can't believe you made this... It's amazing!" I give her a hug. She squeezes back. "Okay, this is the card that goes with the present." Emma says while holding up a card with a colourful Christmas tree on it. Inside there is a long message.

From your bestie - Emma/Jack ~
I look up a Emma. "Man you are cringe, but this is sweet." Emma laughs. "Yeah, we had the cringiest traditions ever. You see the swish part on the card?" I look at where it says 'Hope you have a SWISH Christmas...' "Yeah well, ever since year 6, when were first started being best friends, we wrote the word 'swish' on each other's cards because you thought swish meant awesome because I kept saying it but that's not what it really means." "Oh god, was I that weird?" We both crack up. "What's next?" Emma takes the photos and shows me. "These are all the photo's you have that you collected. It's all the memories you have made." Emma hands me a dozen or so photos. I look at them. There are ones where I'm with a group of girls and one guy in some uniform, one where I'm with another girl, one with around 30 people dressed elegantly another one with Emma. I hold one which is a photo of a girl with her back to the camera, walking along on something in the sunset.
"That's you. You were with me, my twin brother and our really good friend Jamie when we took this. You loved this photo so much. It was legit everywhere." I smiled. I did like this photo a lot. It seemed, aesthetically pleasing to me. "Yeah, I can see why I liked it. It looks awesome." Emma smiled. "We had so much fun. You, me and Jamie had to make a dress for this competition but we didn't finish because we were too busy having fun." "Ha, I can tell. I wish I could remember everything, I really do." I glance at Emma. She's too busy looking at a photo. She passes it to me with tears in her eyes. It's a collage. Four pictures, from when were young all up to our age now. "This is my favourite pic. I had it o my wall and phone, it's hilarious yet heart warming to look at." I smiled. The photos were pretty funny and it showed how much of friends we were.
"Emma, I'll try my best."
