Alison
Next Morning
"Aliii! Wake up, mom needs to see us downstairs," Olivia's vulture like screeching voice said at around 9 AM the next morning.
I hate myself.
No joke.
I groaned and pushed the covers off of my legs, immediately regretting it because it was literally winter in my room, and I was only wearing a tank top and shorts.
"Get out of my room, Olivia," I said, grudgingly rubbing my face of the precious sleep.
She skipped out of my room and I sighed.
I walked to my bathroom and began my morning routine. Brushing my teeth and my hair. Cringing at the tangles that appeared throughout my hair.
I changed into sweatpants and a large LSU sweatshirt. I wanted to go there since I was little, and hopefully, with no distractions this year, I'd be able to go.
It was only about an hour away anyway, but the requirements were strict. Good grades, great behavior, no messing around with extremely handsome guys that made my heart stop and my breath catch in my throat.
I exited the bathroom and walked over to the large window in my room, giving me a view of the river running through the forest in our backyard.
Most people would call it inconvenient, but I called it 'my hideout'. I went there most days when I needed to think, or I just wanted to be alone.
I left my room and headed downstairs to see why my mom wanted to see us. What could she possibly have to talk about? It's not like a had a boy in the house in the middle of the night. Haha, nope. Never.
"Morning girls." Mom said as she turned away from the stove and pointed to the two seats at the kitchen island.
After we sat down and shared a questioning look, she started to speak again, "So there's something I need to tell you girls. And I just want to know that you'll both consider it with open minds and open hearts." She took a sip of her coffee while looking at both of us hopefully.
"Uh, mom, what's going on?" Olivia asked.
"I've met someone. Actually, we met about a year ago but I wanted to wait and make sure he was the one before I introduced him." She finished with a dreamy smile on her face.
"What the hell mom?" Olivia screeched. I looked at her and couldn't help but agree.
Mom, what the hell have you done?
After our dad left we were a pretty broken family. It was just us three. When people at the grocery store or at church asked us about it my mom always gave the polite answer. 'We're better off' or 'We're going to be alright'. She never showed anyone how hurt she was. And that was only eight years ago, when I was just ten years old my dad left us and never looked back.
"Look, I know this may be new to you guys, but it's really not that big of a deal. We really do love each other." She says, taking another sip of coffee before turning her attention to me.
"You haven't said a word, Alison."
Olivia turns to me with narrowed eyes, almost like she needs me to be against this so nothing will ever change in our perfect little trio. She always seemed fine without a father. Probably because she was still just a kid when he left, she barely knew anything but this life. She was content.
Whereas I was confused. I always wondered what we did wrong, but I never gained enough courage to talk to mom about it. I kept my mouth shut and smiled politely.
"That's... great mom. I'm really happy for you." I smiled. I truly was happy for her, I just wondered what kind of complications it would bring for Olivia and I.
"Bullshit!" Olivia said, standing up from her chair.
"Olivia, language."
"I'm sorry mom, but how could you? We're fine without another man in our lives. He's just going to leave and break us all over again!" Olivia shouted, turning and running up the stairs and slamming her bedroom door behind her.
I looked at my fidgeting hands in my lap. I didn't know what else to say.
"Alison, there was something else I needed to tell you both." She whispered, probably on the brink of tears.
I hated seeing her cry so I looked at her hands on the table instead of her eyes.
"What is it, mom?"
"I asked him to move in with us."
My eyes snapped up to meet hers. Is she serious? Is this a joke?
"Mom..."
"I know, I know! It's a big step in a relationship, but I think we're ready and--"
"Of course it's a big step! Not just for you, did you even consider how your two daughters might feel about this? No? Figures." I stood up from my chair and marched right out of the house.
I didn't grab my keys on the way out so I guess I'd be walking to my destination.
What was my destination anyways?
I just walked until the neighborhood park came into view. I had faint memories of this place from when my dad was still around. I remember playing tag with Olivia while mom and dad sat on the bench staring at each other with love in their eyes.
But if that was love, then why did he leave?
"Alison?" A voice said from behind me.
I turned around and of course, Leo Hunt stood there in nothing but a pair of jogging shorts with headphones hanging around his neck.
My eyes traveled down his sweaty body and stopped once they reached the waistband of his shorts.
Look him in the eyes you pervert!
"Uh, hey. What are you doing here?" I stupidly asked.
He laughed and gestured to his attire, "I felt like a run. You?"
I looked across the street at the park, then back at Leo.
"I just wanted to clear my head. Family problems, ya know?" I said, surprisingly not tripping over my words like usual.
"Yeah. I know." He said, looking down at his hands as his eyebrows furrowed. He looked deep in thought about something.
Did I say something wrong?
Just then a car pulled up and stopped right next to us. It was sleek and black and I could hear loud music blaring from the inside.
The window rolled down and revealed a familiar looking face.
"Leo. Get in. Now."
A man of few words, I see.
"See ya later, Princess." Leo winked as he hopped in the passenger seat and shut the door. The car sped off before I even got to respond.
"Bye, Leo."
A/N: Hey hey hey! I have exciting things planned for the next few chapters!! It'll probably make the story a little cliche but also it'll spice it up, ya know? ;)
