I watch Gareth exit the kitchen, and slip through the door.

He is now out of my sight.

Tell you what's not out of my sight though,

The burnt "lunch".

"So. Are you and Nat now a thing?" A voice echos through the second door on my left.

A tall figure with brown, chestnut hair slips through the door.

Leo.

"Weren't you taught not to eavesdrop on others conversations?" My voice is dry, and rough as sandpaper. I'm still getting over the fact that there is rivalry between the brothers, and I'm plonk in the middle of it.

"Weren't you taught not to cheat on your partner?" He replies, with an irritable tone.

"Nat is not my boyfriend. Now if you could just let me get on with the cooking-"

"Then why does he have you all to himself?? Why do you allow him to seduce you like that??" I hear his voice tremble with rage.

Great. The last thing I need is another boy, annoyed with me.

"Please, calm down Leo. It's not what you think-"

"Then how do you explain how all of your time is spent with him?? Please (Y/n)..." Leo's voice fades.

"...You don't need just Nat to be happy, (Y/n)."

Leo tilts his head up slightly, and stares right into my eyes. His piercing, dark, blue eyes, connecting with mine. I see the frustration creased into his eyebrows.

"Leo. I'm a maid. I work here. I'm not here to look for love. Please remember that...." I say sorrowfully.

I pace towards him slowly, and embrace him in a reassuring hug. To me, he is behaving like a worried brother.

I understand it.

"No one is going to take me away, Leo. I decided a while ago that I would be staying single for a while, after my last relationship."

Leo opens his mouth to reply, but whatever words he was about to say, stick in his throat.

He breaks away, gripping onto my shoulders and looking deeply into my eyes.

"Please stay away from my brothers. I don't know what they are capable of." His voice has an anxious tone.

"I can't guarantee that I can stay away from them, but you don't need to worry about me, Leo!" I warmly smile.

"That's good." He smiles back.

He really is just like a brother.

Like the brother I never had.

"Stay safe." He calmly exits the kitchen.

Finally, some time to myself to cook. 💢

But..Gareth was going to teach me.

Well...for a deal that I refuse to make.

I survey the kitchen, until my eyes fall on the dusty book on top of a high shelf.

I grab a chair and reach for it, and I manage to take hold of it, and bring it down to the ground.

It reads,

"A guide to all things cooking!"  By Nathaniel Mclellan."

..So Nat is an author and a chef??

Well, I can at least finally start cooking!
