The Golden City

They've been in the car for what felt like forever as they drove to 'The Golden City'. They called it this because at night it looked like the city was made of gold. In the golden city, the gifted hid in abandoned buildings to escape the hunters. There are many gifted there, but also disguised hunters. "We're close to reaching our destinations guys so wake up!" Audrey yelled from the driver seat. Blake was the first one to wake up since he hadn't really been sleeping.

He looked at Matt who was sleeping like a hibernating bear, but then his gaze focused on Lena. Even when she was sleeping she was still as beautiful as ever. He shook Lena which startled her out of her sleep making her hand raise quickly as she attempted to slap him, but he caught her hand and pulled her closer so their faces were merely inches apart.

Blake smirked which made her roll her eyes, and move away from him. Matt was still sleeping, but was woken up by the sound of a honking truck behind them. Audrey stuck her middle finger out the window and said a bunch of curse words to the driver behind them. "Audrey stop pissing people off and focus on where you're going" Lena said pulling Audrey's arm back into the car.

It took about fifteen minutes to get to the abandoned building they were looking for, and in that fifteen minutes Matt somehow managed to fall asleep again. Audrey parked the car, and took the keys out of the ignition. If you couldn't already tell it is night time and they are all tired from the long drive. Lena was the first to get out of the car because her legs had started to cramp up and she needed to stretch them.

She opened the door to the passenger seat and slapped Matt's face gently making him wake up from his short nap. "Lets go dear brother of mine who dragged me out to a place I've never been because he thinks I'm something that I'm not" Lena said with a not amused face before walking over to Audrey, and resting her head on her shoulder. Audrey chuckled then began to lead the others into the abandoned building. Lena looked around and noticed that the outside of the building looked way worse then the inside.

Lena hadn't noticed people coming out from the shadows until someone with yellow eyes appeared next to her. She jumped knocking into Blake who grabbed her shoulders to steady her. Lena took a closer look at the person and noticed their eyes were more cat like than human. She looked up at Blake who was peering down at her before releasing her and catching up with Audrey.

Lena stood there for a few seconds before running after the others to catch up. She held onto Matt's arm not knowing what else to do since she didn't know where she was or who these people were. "These are gifted, and I know you think you aren't one of us, but you are okay? Your powers haven't come in yet... It just takes time" Matt said looking down at Lena "What if my powers never come Matt?" She said a bit sad.

Matt shook his head, but before he could speak everyone had stopped walking and a loud voice boomed ahead of them. "Welcome Home! Blake... You're needed elsewhere, as for the rest of you... I'm glad you could make it. Lena, we haven't formally met I'm Jeremy, the co-leader of this organization. If you are wondering, this organization is based on taking down the hunters and helping mortals and the gifted live in peace.

Lena stared at the ground not knowing what to say. Everyone was staring at her, and she felt uncomfortable under pressure. Jeremy waved the other gifted who were crowding the small group away to do their jobs of maintaining the building they are currently staying in. Jeremy walked down the staircase, and stopped in front of the small group. Lena was holding onto Audrey's arm now a bit nervous and slightly curious.

"Audrey, Cam, and Matthew you may leave. Lena shall we take a walk?" Jeremy said disbanding their group and approaching Lena. She nodded slightly then followed, trying to keep up with him, as he walked away. "Umm.. if you don't mind me asking, what is your ability Jeremy?"

Jeremy smirked and replied with "Curiosity killed the cat, Lena" which made her say "But satisfaction brought it back, Jeremy" "Smart girl, I shall answer your question. My ability is to manipulate time, I can turn back time by a few minutes, and I also can tell what you are going to do before you do it" Jeremy said which made Lena's jaw drop. She hadn't heard of a gifted that was able to manipulate time.

Jeremy grabbed Lena's waist just as she was about to trip over a piece of the concrete that had been sticking up from the ground. She looked up at him as a small smile creeped up upon his lips. Jeremy helped her readjust herself and she stepped over the broken concrete, they continued to walk silently. "Jeremy! Antonio wants to speak with you" Blake said running up to where Jeremy and Lena had stopped.

When Jeremy walked away Blake smirked at Lena which made her roll her eyes again. "I want to show you something!" Blake said grabbing her hand "Wait where are w-"  but before Lena couldn't finish her sentence she was already being dragged up a couple flights of staircases by Blake.

When Blake pushed open the rusted metal door, they were up very high. Blake didn't let go of Lena's hand until they were at the edge of the building. Since Lena was afraid of heights she tried to move away from the edge, but the thing was she couldn't move at all. Blake had let go of Lena's hand and jumped onto the crane connected to the building. He gestured for Lena to follow him, but that's when he noticed she was just frozen.

He jumped off the crane, but before he could get to her, the piece of the building she had been standing on broke from under her feet making her lose balance, and fall. "Lena!" Blake yelled as he tried to grab her, Lena screamed as she tucked her body into a fetus like position. Everyone had heard the scream, and rushed to the top of the building to see what had happened.

All of a sudden, a flash of purple, pink, blue, and orange flames surrounded her. She had stopped falling and was now hovering as the flames around her started forming wings. She looked at the newly formed wings and almost shrieked. After taking a few deep breaths, Lena did her best to fly back up to the top of the building and perch herself on the roof without falling.

The wings that had just appeared disappeared just as fast as they came. Soon, Audrey and Matt were surrounding her in a big bear hug. She squirmed trying to get away from them or make them see that she was being squished. "Sorry" they said in unison before moving away from her. Lena took a deep breath then looked at Blake who was just standing there.

Blake went to approach Lena, but was stopped by Matt blocking him "Stay away from my sister, If you hadn't have brought her up here she wouldn't have fallen!" Matt yelled which made Lena flinch. Audrey grabbed Lena's shoulders and tried to lead her to the door, but Lena didn't budge. "I... I didn't know she was afraid of heights..." Blake said backing away.

Matt grunted and kept yelling at Blake until Lena stood in between them blocking them from each other. She pushed Matt, as he tried to move towards Blake, backwards which made him surprised "Enough! Matthew I could've stopped him from bringing me up here, but I didn't! I'm fine aren't I? So stop blaming Blake!" she yelled at her own brother.

Matt took a step backwards looking hurt. Lena sighed "I'm sorry, but it really isn't Blake's fault" she spoke up then joined Audrey in leaving the rooftop. They headed down the stairs until Lena stopped. The tears were just coming now, and she couldn't handle it anymore, she just let them pour down her face.

Audrey immediately hugged her "What am I going to do Audrey, I left my life behind and if I go back... I'll be killed" Audrey made soft shushing sounds after she was finished. Lena slowly pulled away from her, and wiped her tears away. Lena pinched her cheeks, then walked down the rest of the stairs, and back into the old building where she would spend the rest of her life, or so she thought.
