chapter 04 -  east and west
ANALIA

"I want everyone to write a summary of chapter five by tomorrow, minimum two pages!" Ms. Lewis, my english teacher says before the doorbell rings.

I immediately pack my things and a few students were already out the door, hurrying to their next period class. I take my time since I had my next class down the hall. I head towards the door when someone stops me.

"Analia, right?" Ms. Lewis says from the opposite side of her desk. I turn my head towards her and Ms. Lewis lowers her glasses to look at me. She closes her laptop and smiles at me.

"Yes?"

"I've been wanting to talk to you, I just wanted to say how I admire your use of words in the essay you wrote last night. And as you've already seen, I've shared it with the class today. I'm sure the students here can learn a few things from you." She says and gets up from her seat, and smooths out her blouse.

"Thank you." I say with a smile and happy she liked my work. I adjust my bag on my shoulder and tuck my hair back behind my ear as a habit.

"I hope your work continues to get better this year, your work is truly amazing. See you tomorrow, Analia."

"See you tomorrow, Ms. Lewis." I say with a smile and head out towards the door. I adjust my bag again and when I turn the corner I bump into someone.

I stagger and regain my balance, to look up at the culprit. The familiar dark haired boy looks back at me, recognizing me. "We've got to stop meeting like this." I mumble under my breathe and move out of the way.

"Sorry." I say and get class. I continue walk and look over my shoulder to see him looking back at me, making me quickly turn my head and walk faster.

I step inside my classroom and sit down in my seat. The bell rings and on que students start piling inside the class. "As many of you know this week is equalization week, where classes that have too many students send the extra children to transfer into another. You can either do it voluntarily or involuntarily. And today I have a list of children who will be transferring today. If you have any more questions about the process you may ask your guidance counselors." My teacher says and takes out a piece of paper inside an envelope. I watch everyone's curious eyes and look at the teacher curious too.

"Sandy Hilmore, Ms. Henson room 323. Dean Hale, Ms. Sereni room 376. And finally... Analia Stequal, Mr. Demore room E390." She raises her brows at the paper and then back at me, giving me a small smile.

"You three will have to transfer today, hope you guys like your new classes!" She says and we cautiously start to pack our bags and get out of our seats.
