Sometimes I just wish I was normal. I'm so fucking sick and tired of people looking at me like I'm a fucking talking eyeball floating in mid-air. It's hard enough dealing with being bullied I don't need to be stared at all day. I am so sorry, I forgot to introduce myself, how rude, oh well, who cares anyways, I'm Emmalyn Hayes. I'm a senior, FINALLY, I don't really have a life and I'd rather not talk about my family. I'm new to Shore High school, I'm not really familiar with the town so that's what I'm doing today before school starts tomorrow.

I walk down to the small grocery store I saw when we drove into town. It's a really small, homey- type store, the type of store where everyone knows everyone. I walk into the store and notice a small older lady behind the counter. She looked at me like she was studying me. I gave her a small smile and started walking down the aisle looking for something to make for dinner. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and continued shopping, getting annoyed at the stray hairs that were getting in my face. I turned down another aisle and found some mac and cheese in a box, I grab two and make my way over to the dairy section to get milk and butter. I grabbed what I needed and made my way to the check out. The same lady was still at the counter and she smiled at me as I put my stuff down.

"You're a new face. Did you just move here hon?" She asked sweetly.

"Um, yeah, we just moved here so I'm just trying to see the town a little," I replied watching her scan the items.

"$14.67, hon." She said putting the last box in the sack.

I hand her $15 and told her to keep the change. I grabbed the sack and walked out of the store. I looked up to the sky, seeing the light gray clouds scattered along the sky. I look back down the road, not really ready to go home yet, and walk to the small park I saw when I was walking earlier. The closer I get to the park I can hear the laughter of a young girl. I go and sit on the bench and just watching the little girl run from the swings to the slide, remembering how I kept wishing I could have a normal childhood to be able to do that. The next thing I hear is the little girl scream, breaking me out of my shitty memories, I look towards the slide and I see the little girl laying on the ground crying, holding her knee. I run to the girl and tell her it'll be alright.

" Hi sweetie, I'm Emmalyn. It'll be okay, you just scraped your knee. I think I have a band-aid on me." I told her, while I carried her back to the bench I was jut sitting on. I pulled a band-aid out of my wallet and put it over her scrape, which was about the size of a quarter. I threw the trash away and went back and crouched in front of the girl. Wiping the stray tears away from her cute little face.

"What's your name sweetie?" I ask her with a small smile while she sniffles. She mumbles something under her breath, not catching what it is.

"What was that cutie?" I ask her again trying to make her smile.

"My name is Alison, and I'm 4." She says louder holding up 3 fingers. I laugh at the mistake and put another finger up on her hand.
"Ali?! Alison?! Where are you?!?" I hear a male voice yell from across the park.

"I'm over here bubby!!!!" Little Alison calls to him. I laugh at the nickname she has for the teenager, who is now walking over to the bench.

"Jesus Alison I thought you were kidnapped. Shoot, what happened?!" He asked not even paying attention to me. He inspected Alison's knee and looked at her smiling face.

"Where'd this band-aid come from?" He asked her. She didn't say anything, she just pointed at me. He turned his head and finally looked at me. He stood up, reaching his full height, which was almost a foot taller than me. He smirked and held out his hand and introduced himself.

"Hi, I'm Derek. I've never seen you here before, are you new?" I get the feeling I'm going to be asked that a lot in the next few weeks.

"I'm Emmalyn, and yes I'm new, we just moved here." I replied shaking his hand with a small smile. I took the moment to study how he looked, honestly he looked amazing. His green eyes bore into my boring hazel ones. His dark hair was spiked like he was running his hands through it, but yet it also looked like it was gelled back. His smirk was aggravatingly cute. We stared at each other for a while until I felt Alison pulling on my the jacket I always wear.

Derek broke out of the trance-like staring contest and smiled at his sister.

"Uh, thanks for taking care of this one while I went to the store for some water." He said picking Alison up and putting her on his shoulders.

"It's no problem, I'm just glad she's okay." I turn back to the bench and it dawns on me that I have milk and butter still in the bag from the store. "Oh shit, I forgot I had groceries. I'm so sorry, I have to go, I'll see you around, hopefully. Be safe Ali." I say grabbing the bag. I start walking away and I hear Alison say bye and start laughing.

I turn into the driveway and slowly start walking up to the house, getting slower and slower, not wanting to be home, ever. As I unlock the door I hear glass breaking and instantly cringe waiting to feel the pain from the glass.
