Royality Bites

Ch 4

Weeks had passed and the hunter siblings were still living in the palace,no new major attacks had happened since Hinoto's clan had attacked;but a few demons had tried to get in. Kotori somehow managed to fight despite having a broken arm. Fuuma was moving slower than normal but his leg was almost completely healed so he picked up Kotori's slack. As for Seishirou,he was the one that seemed to have to adapt the most. Fuuma noticed a few times that his twin seemed out of the action and more often than not holding his head and if Fuuma were going insane he'd swear up and down that he heard his twin screaming in the dead of the night but that was impossible. Seishirou? Scream? Never. He was Sakurazukamori,the master of hiding one's emotions;fear,pain,sorrow and love; then again,he loved Subaru didn't he? These days Fuuma just didn't know his twin and as he sat outside on a warm spring afternoon he wondered if that was the fate his sister and himself shared as well.

"Fuuma? You okay?" Something had been off about all three hunter siblings, probably due to Seishirou's change...but still. Fuuma hadn't talked to him about it or anything...

Honey brown eyes looked up and met violet. "Oh hello Kamui,how are you? It's a lovely day to be alive isn't it?"

Kamui frowned and laid a hand against Fuuma's head. It wasn't warmer than it should be.... "Fuuma...You can talk to me you know....." Fuuma was never one to just talk about mundane subjects or anything like that.

"Even though I can talk it doesn't mean you'll understand." Fuuma hoisted himself up and started to walk around. "You were born a vampire Kamui so you're alive so to speak but what about us? I was born a human,so was my sister and my twin. Becoming a vampire makes us dead now doesn't it?"

Kamui bit his lip. He had to think about that for a minute.... "...I know that being born a vampire means you still have a heartbeat, you can hear mine, Hokuto, Subaru and I can all still hear our own and each other's...As for when you're turned into one, I'm not sure....Never been close to someone who's been turned- it's essentially illegal. But, you can ask Subaru. I'm sure he'd be able to tell you, he'd know if Seishirou's heart is still beating. That's....honestly the best I can tell you Fuuma. I can assume Hokuto would know as well, but I'm not sure. And...it depends on what you count as being dead versus living. You'd think it's the heart that determines that, but it's actually the brain. Even if the heart stops, you can't truly be dead until it's stopped long enough for the brain to suffocate, that's when the whole body quits and dies. If you use that respect, then Seishirou is very much alive. But, regardless, if it ever comes down to it....and for whatever reason you or Kotori are turned, I don't want your hearts to stop beating, not even for a second. And for Subaru's sake, I'm hoping Seishirou's doesn't either."

"My twin...my twin he's not human. He's off. We've spared a few times and even with my injured leg I was able to win. I'm telling you Kamui,that's not my twin,just when he got turned the old him died and now he's someone different. It's close to noon and he's still in bed. Growing up he had me up at the crack of dawn and I was always wanting to go back to bed. I don't know what to think anymore,I wish none of this ever happened!"

Kamui tentatively hugged him. "I'm sorry...I honestly wish the same. I guess you can just hope he's still adjusting and will go back to as close as normal as he can." He knew Hokuto hiring them in the first place had been a bad idea, but despite how he'd acted he was happy because he could see Fuuma more. But with Hinoto's clan attacking....at least the witch was dead now, and at least one of them probably would have died without the hunters, but still.

"Kamui you're starting to sound like Subaru. What are you two doing out here anyways? Not safe to be outside the palace's protective enchanetments." Even Hokuto these days had lost the spring in her step. It was almost as if she blamed herself for everything that had happened.
