The Forgotten Child, The Found Child

Chapter 2

"Vic...when is Mom and Dad getting home?" Abby asked as she walked into the living room where her sister and brother were looking over some files for work.

"Later this evening...why?" Victoria told her not yet looking up from her work.

"And he'll be with them?" Abby asked, not so sure how she felt about having another sibling that she had never knew anything about.

At this Victoria and Nick looked up at their younger sister and smiled as they patted the spot in between them signaling for her to sit down, "Yes Abs...Adam will be with them when they get here...Adam will be staying with us from now on since he is our brother."

"He is NOT my brother...I've never even met him before," Abby snarled, mostly from the fact that ever since her father had gotten custody and Nikki had legally adopted her, she had been the center of their whole world since Nick and Victoria were married and had families of their own. Abby wasn't sure how she felt about not being the 'only' child in the house anymore and she was also confused about the whole 'her father having another child thing' as well.

"Abby..." Nick scolded, "Squirt I know you are uncomfortable about Dad having another child that you didn't know about and the fact that he will be coming to live with us now, but this isn't Adam's fault," Nick told her, "Adam has been through a hard time...his mother just passed away and now he has to leave his home where he grew up and come live with people he does not know or hasn't seen in a long time...and that is going to be a rough adjustment for him and I don't think it will help matters if you aren't very welcoming to him...please for Mom and Dad's sake, try to be on your best behavior and make Adam feel as welcome as you can, ok?"

"Ok...for Mom and Dad I will try to be on my best behavior," Abby agreed as she rolled her eyes. *Teenagers,* Nick and Victoria thought to themselves. "But what I don't understand is why I didn't know about Adam...You two obviously already knew about him...why was I left out of the loop?" Abby asked.

"Abby you weren't intentionally kept out of the loop...and the only reason we knew and you didn't is because you weren't born when Adam was born and Dad was still in his life...Mom and Dad just didn't think it was necessary to bring Adam up and tell you...they wanted to wait till you were a little older," Victoria explained.

"I'm 14...I'm old enough to understand that I have another brother," Abby replied.

"That is not what we meant...it is a little more complicated than that," Victoria said.

"Ok then...what makes it more complicated?" Abby asked.

"Those details are for Mom and Dad to explain to you...which they will when they get here with Adam," Nick told her.
