The fissure tore right through the earth. It was a hideous scar on the Earths crust, emanating a faint red glow. The crack itself wasn't a huge concern, what it brought with it, however, caused utter chaos.
I woke up on a battlefield, a war raging between man and the ones I called family. Humanity, along with divine beings banished us where no life exists, everything in eternal torment. It was only a matter of time before we broke our bonds and escaped the pit to take back what was originally ours. I Looked up, seeing the one who was closest to me impaling a human with his bare fists. He was like a father to me, even though I was nothing like the rest. They all seemed so, nightmarish, while I'm humanoid. Albeit I have a much paler complexion to humans and the scar that runs across my face pulsing with demonic energy. I was still dazed, it was a shock, I had never actually been in a battle before. Well, I don't recall being in one. My instincts soon kicked in and I was slicing men apart with my scythe. The humans were soon dispatched, no match for us. Only a few of my fellow brothers had fallen. I turned to Uryx, my surrogate father and asked "Is that all the humans can muster?" I spat on a humans lifeless corpse in disgust of their weakness. "The humans are not what we are concerned about" Uryx replied with a concerned expression. There was something troubling him, gnawing away at his iron heart. "Be on your guard young one, I have a feeling...". He looked up before he could finish his sentence. A large shaft of light illuminated the battleground in the urban streets of Manhattan. The true fight had begun. Celestial beings, angels descended on our position. Already the death toll had rised considerably, there was an endless wave of white wings and golden armour. Uryx told me to run and I obeyed. I ran as fast as I could like a coward, watching my brethren die infront of me. Then I was spotted. An angel quickly came crashing towards the ground infront of me, creating a shockwave which knocked me over like I was a pin being hit by a bowling ball. I fumbled for my scythe, finally finding the grip positioned on the middle of the bar. I swiped at the angel while simultaneously bringing myself to my feet. The head of my scythe made contact with his golden chest plate producing a loud clang. My attack didn't even scratch him. He just stared into my eyes, his pure white hair and eyes obviously showing his divine status. He didn't seem hostile, and he placed his hand on my shoulder. "Close the gate arakai, close it and this will all be over" he said calmly. My heart yearned for the blood of my enemies, but I knew in my mind, all I wanted was peace. "How do I know you aren't tricking me into damming my brethren again?" I retorted. He just stared into my eyes again before suddenly pulling his blade from his scabbard. I readied myself for impact by brandishing my scythe in a horizontal position, I felt no impact, maybe I had died? No. I turned around to see the angel I had confronted running his sword through another angel. I was stunned, he had gone rogue to protect the enemy? I had to trust him. I gently nodded to him and glanced towards a pillar which seemed to allow the rift to stay open, "we need to destroy the spire" I said. He didn't say anything, only extending his wings and grabbing my arm. We took off, soaring above the ensuing battle. It was intense, so much blood, so much death. We came to a halt and plummeted towards the ground in a sphere of light, knocking everything away from us. The spire, which was approximately ten feet above ground was pulsing with pure demonic energy. My scar began to flush with a much stronger shade of blood red as we grew closer to it. We began hacking at the spire but we didn't seem to be doing significant damage. I don't know why I was doing this, going against my own race? It just felt right what I was doing and I couldn't control the urge to send them back to hell. "You have to connect to it" the angel said "but how?! I can barely cast a simple spell nevermind shut it down!" I replied with a worried expression. "Just do something for goodness sake!" Without thinking I pressed my hand against the spire. It seemed to be working, I could feel the energy from both my scar and the spire fading and the ominous hue emanating from the fissure began to dissipate. Before I could finish the job I was knocked backwards with sheer force. It was Uryx. "What the bloody hell do you think you're doing?!" he pulled me to my feet before I could give him an answer and flung me against a building. I could feel my consciousness fading, my eyes were drooping and my movements were slow. Uryx stormed over, he was going to kill me, what kind of a father kills his son? "He put one foot on my head and pressed down hard "Hell doesn't have room for traitors" he hissed pressing his foot harder and harder against my cranium. I cried in pain but he just laughed "I thought you would make a great warrior, I guess I was wrong" he pulled his foot off me and picked me up by the throat "you didn't think I was going to kill you quickly did you?" he sneered at me and said "oh no, I'm going to enjoy killing you slowly, weakling". The rage within me kept building and building every time he insulted me or threw me to the floor. Eventually I lost it. I could feel my muscles tighten and an intense pain ran through my left arm, I look at it. It was quickly become disfigured, spikes were growing from it, blood seeping from it and claws took the place of my fingers. I let out a cry of pure anger and ran at Uryx, swiping him with my newfound strength and weapon. He flew backwards, landing with a thud. I walked over to him and started to continuously punch his face. He pushed me off so we were both facing eachother, at a deadlock. We both ran at eachother with the intent of killing. I drew my left arm back and rammed it into his chest, impaling him. He dropped to the ground like a rock, coughing up blood. I didn't execute him, I had the urge to but I had to stop the carnage so I swiftly made my way back to the spire, placing my right hand back on it. It was done, I had sapped all the energy from the spire! I sighed in relief as the demonic army turned to ash, being transported back into the fissure. I stood there holding my arm as the angels retreated. I was alone, nobody to guide me. How would I survive in this new world?
