Chapter Seventeen ││ One Step Forward, Many Years Back

Skylar's POV

Today has been a long day at work, its absolutely mind bending how bad some peoples nutrition is but at least its over. Enzo spent the day at kindergarten. I picked him up and now we're heading home.

We got home and Enzo ran to the door, waiting for me to unlock it.

"Mummy, there's a box" Enzo shouted as I walked to the door. I unlocked the door and picked up the box which was marked 'fragile' and walked inside.

"Enzo, unpack your bag and then you can play with your toys." I said as I sat down on the couch.

I opened the box and found a card on top

"Skylar, this photo is absolutely gorgeous and I thought you'd like it. Allie"

I laid the card down and unwrapped the package to find a framed black and white photo of Beau and I looking at each other while we were dancing at the wedding reception. We could have been mistaken for a couple; the way we were looking at each other when that photo was taken.

I sat looking at the photo for a while before pulling out an old photo album that had a bunch of photos from when we were younger and started looking through it.

"Mummy, why are you crying?" Enzo asked breaking me out of my thoughts. I didn't even realise I was crying. I quickly put the photo and the album down and picked Enzo up, sitting him on my knee.

"I'm just happy baby boy." I said

"But you're crying." Enzo said

"They are happy tears. Anyway I need to get you some dinner, so what do you want to eat?" I asked changing the subject.

"Can we have chicken pasta?" Enzo asked

"Sure baby. I'm going to cook, do you want to sit at the bench and colour while I cook?" I asked Enzo

"Yes." Enzo replied as I lifted him up and carried him into the kitchen before beginning to cook.

Beau's POV

I know Skylar has been at work all day and she has work all day tomorrow, so I was thinking of seeing if I can spend the afternoon with Enzo after his morning at kindergarten.

"Hey Mum" I said as I walked outside to where she was gardening.

"Hey Beau" Mum replied as I sat down beside her on the grass

"I want to run something by you, just get your thoughts on it." I said

"Ok, what is it?" Mum said stopping what she was doing and looking at me

"Sky's working tomorrow and Enzo has kindergarten in the morning, so I was thinking if Sky's alright with it, I could pick up Enzo and take him for the afternoon but I'm not really sure what to do with him other than go to the park and I feel like we always do that." I explained to Mum

"There's lots you can do with him, you could go bowling or take him shopping and get ice-cream, or just bring him here and watch a movie or play a game." Mum said

"Thanks Mum, now I just have to ask Sky." I said

Skylar's POV

Enzo and I finished eating dinner, before Enzo had a bath and got ready for bed. I read Enzo a story in bed, him slowly falling asleep before the story was even finished. I kissed his forehead, turned off his lamp and walked out, shutting his door before walking back to the lounge.

I picked up the picture of Beau and I and started looking at it again, thinking about everything that we've been through. I stood up and walked over to my shelves, grabbing the framed photo from the day Enzo was born. I stood looking at all my photos for a while thinking about everything. I decided to re-organise all of my photos that were on display to include the photo of Beau and I.

Just as I finished re-organising my photos, my phone went off. I picked it up and saw a text from Beau.

From: Beau

'Hi Sky, I know you're working tomorrow and Enzo has kindergarten in the morning, but I was wondering if I could pick him up and spend the afternoon with him. And maybe I could pick up pizza on our way to yours and we can have dinner?'

To: Beau

'Hi Beau, that sounds good. You're already on the list of people to pick Enzo up, his session ends at 11:30. And dinner sounds good. Do you want me to pack him lunch or...'

From: Beau

'Thanks, I've got lunch sorted. I'll see Enzo and you tomorrow.'

So, Beau and Enzo are going to spend the afternoon together and we're all having pizza together for dinner...
