The following day the Pevensie children were all standing in a semi circle around their mother who was pinning pieces of paper on their coats, all of them were wearing long warm coats, Lucy and Laura wearing beanies, "You need to keep this on, darling. All right?" Helen asked as she looked at her youngest child who was looking at her through teary eyes, Laura and Susan shared a look of sadness as they looked at their younger sister.
"You warm enough? Good girl." she asked again while looking Lucy, the young brunette nodded and watched as her mother moved on to Edmund, the second eldest brunette reached for the smallest girl's hand giving her a small sad smile, as Mrs. Pevensie pinned the paper of where her children were going and with whom they were staying on Edmund's coat while the rest of his siblings looked at her sadly and heartbroken to have to leave her, "Everything is going to be okay Lucy, you'll see, we'll be back home in no time." Laura said holding her sister's hand tightly in hers.
"If Dad were here, he wouldn't make us go." Edmund said as his mother fixed his coat, he was angry that he had to leave his home, that he had to leave his mother and that he was going to spend more time with, according to him, his annoying siblings. "If Dad were here, it'd mean the war was over and we wouldn't have to." Peter told his brother in a slightly not so kind tone which caused Laura to lower her brows at him slightly.
They were all filled with emotions and were all trying to be brave but that didn't mean that any of them had the right to lash out on the others, "You will listen to your brother, won't you, Edmund?" Helen asked her son, who looked down at her face, Helen stood up and reached for a hug while going to kiss his cheek but the 10 year old moved his head away leaving his mother to kiss the top of his head.
Slowly the mother of the family moved to her eldest son and hugged him tightly whispering in her ear "Promise me you'll look after the others." "I will, Mum." Peter chocked out as he hugged his mom tightly, "Good man." Helen whispered to him before the two broke apart and the train officer called out for everyone to hear "All aboard! All aboard!" Helen Pevensie then moved to her eldest daughter and hugged her tightly, "Susan. Be a big girl." Helen whispered to her as Susan nodded with fresh tears falling from her face.
Laura couldn't help but feel what her sister was feeling and when her mother walked over to her and pulled her into a much needed hug from both parties she couldn't help but let the tears that she was holding back fall down her pale cheeks "Promise you'll help look after them, promise you'll keep everyone safe." Helen whispered emotionally causing Laura to choke back a sob as she answered "I ...promise mom"
Pulling away and wiping her tears Helen smiled sadly at her 5 children and said "All right. Off you go." The children all nodded and bent down to grab their luggage before starting to walk away Laura in front, followed by her twin sister who was dragging Edmund with her, as he said "Hey, get off. I know how to get on a train by myself. Get off me!" with Peter and Lucy behind them, after being checked by the woman that worked on the train, Laura, started to walked ahead when she heard the woman ask "May I have your tickets, please?"
"Tickets, please." she insisted when her older brother didn't give it to her, as her twin sister pulled the tickets from the day dreaming 13 year old boy, she hissed "Peter." Smiling a bit at the woman Susan gave her the papers and nodded when she said "Right, on you go." This caused Peter to snap back from his day dream and say "Yes thank you."
They start walking inside when 8 year old Lucy suddenly stops and looks back to try and see her mother only to have her eldest brother say "Come on, Lucy. We have to stick together now. Everything's gonna be all right. It's gonna be fine." she started to cry a bit more but followed him inside where she was instantly met by her older sister, Laura who pulled her into a heart filled hug.
