Chapter 6: So, I Might Be…

{three months later…}

I woke up queasy, sitting upright with my hand over my mouth as Andy placed a hand on my shoulder. “You okay?” he asked, concern touching his voice.

I waited for a moment, waiting for the sensation to leave…but it got worse. “Nope!” I replied as I flung the sheets away from me and ran into the bathroom, just making it to the toilet in time to empty my stomach into it. I groaned as I dry-heaved and heard a tentative knock on the bathroom door. “Do not come in here!”

“Like I’ll ever listen to that.” I heard Andy sigh as I felt him pull my hair out of my face and rub my back soothingly. “Was it something you ate, do you think?”

“I don’t know…” I groaned and then lurched forward, my stomach deciding to empty itself again. I shuddered and groaned. “Please go away…I don’t want you to see this…”

“I’m not going anywhere.” Andy replied sternly. “I love you… I’m gonna help take care of you.”

“I think I like the sound of that…” I smiled, flushing the toilet and standing slowly, making my way over to the sink. “I think I’m okay…for the moment…” Andy looked at me dubiously. “You want to help?” I asked and he nodded, hugging me. “Would you call Doctor Levi for me? Make an appointment…better safe than sorry…right?”

“Right,” he smiled back and kissed my head. “I’ll be right back…”

I sat in Doctor Levi’s office at the surgery, stomach churning. I only hoped I’d be back home before I was sick again…

“Hello, Kat,” Doctor Levi smiled as he entered. “Don’t take this the wrong way, but…you look aweful every time I see you.”

I laughed. “Gee, thanks.”

“So, what can I help you with today?” he asked seriously, looking me over.

“I’ve been throwing up and I’ve no idea why…so I came to see you.” I shrugged. “I would’ve just curled up at home and kept hydrated…but my boyfriend insisted on seeing you.”

“Righto,” he smiled and nodded. “Well, from what you’ve already filled out, I can see you’ve not consumed anything that could’ve given you food poisoning like last time,” he glanced up at me with a smirked and I rolled my eyes. “So…” he thought for a moment. “I’ll take some blood and send it off…should have the results by…Wednesday, I think.”

“Wow, that’s quick…” My eyes widened, but I nodded. “Sounds good…but how will I keep things down til then?”

“Oh, don’t worry, I’ll prescribe you something for that.” He smiled as he scrawled out a prescription. “Alright, there’s that…now, I’ll get you to follow me down the hall and I’ll take that blood sample.”

Wednesday came and went without a call from Doctor Levi, so I decided not to worry; the prescription he’d given me had stopped the queasiness, so I was happy. Happy and hungry as I sat in my parents’ backyard as we all hung out for a barbeque the next day.

Cindy and I whispered to each other about Manson and Andy, casting flirtatious looks their way every now and then to make them suspicious and laughing when they narrowed their eyes at us.

“What are you two whispering about?” Manson demanded, his voice a low growl that I saw made Cindy shudder.

Cindy bit her lip and looked innocent. “Oh, nothing.”
