I headed to school on Monday with a smile on my face. My phone had been going off the hook as the news about the quarterback position broke on the school's social media morning update.

Rose launched herself into my arms when I entered school. I chuckled and kissed her, breaking it before someone could call a teacher. People came up to congratulate me as I stood at my locker. I didn't miss some of the girls congratulating Rose as well. The bell rang as a group, we headed to Biology.

On a lazy Friday afternoon, we had convinced Ms Bailey to stop the seating plan as she learnt our names all too well. We all rushed to get seats together, something made Ms Bailey chuckle as the bell to start class began. We were ahead in Biology when compared to our other subjects, mainly because we liked Ms Bailey and gave her our fullest attention.

I turned around as I felt eyes on the back of my head. I fought a smile as I saw Mira-Jean looking at me. She had the coveted back seat near the window, she had a pen in her hand as she scribbled her notes down. Her face was expressionless but her eyes were smiling.

I looked forward as Mira's eyes drifted to the classroom door.

"Mira-Jean Swanson?" a big burly police officer asked. I had never seen him before, but he stank with an air of arrogance and if I wasn't mistaken, he reeked of cigarettes.

"Captain Lionel Gordon," Mira answered clearly with a hint of a smirk on her lips. I kept my eyes on her, hoping the guy would overlook her taunting tone.

"I have a warrant here to search your possessions," Mira stood up and took the piece of paper from him.

"What for this time?" she asked calmly as she read it. Her eyes were hard as diamonds as she looked at him, standing her ground. I looked around at class, shocked that everyone was calm about this, some of them even looked bored.

"Possession of marijuana and narcotics," Captain Gordon said almost smugly. "Your locker is being searched as we speak. Hand over your bag."

"When are you going to realise I don't deal with that stuff?" Mira asked nonchalantly. Anyone would think that she was uninterested with what was happening but underneath the façade, she was scared and wary.

"The day I put you behind bars," Gordon growled. "And I would watch your mouth missy, I've got your brother down at the station and we wouldn't want anything to happen to him."

If looks could kill, Gordon would be obliterated by Mira's glare as she held out her bag only for it to be snatched by the detective but she kept quiet for Rex's sake.

"Her locker is empty Sir," a lieutenant came in and stood next to Gordon. "The canines found nothing, not even a trace of lunch. They're searching the school now."

"Good, search her," Gordon commanded.

"Hey!" I shouted as the male lieutenant stepped towards Mira-Jean. "You should get a female officer to do that." I stood up, feeling the blood boil in my veins, furious at the officers and at my classmates and Ms Bailey was letting this unfold.

"We have none one duty at the moment son," Gordon cast his eyes on me, trying to get me to back down.

"Then search her when you do," I countered firmly. He wasn't a police officer, he was a bully.

The detective rolled his shoulders back. "You," he pointed to Ms Bailey, "search her and be very thorough or you will be held as an accomplice."
