Listen to No Such Thing As A Broken Heart by Old Dominion
Greyson arrives shortly after O'rien's next impatient whine- not a minute after the last- and comes right over with a sweet smile on his face.
"Hello, Cat."
I grin back at him. "Hi," I mentally slap myself for giving such a simple, shy reply.
"Sorry I'm-" Greyson glances at his watch- a sturdy looking material, although the band stained with.... grease? It's clock piece shone from care- differing from O'rien's watch, hanging onto a worn leather band, as if just a barely noticeable part of him. Greyson looks back up, "10 minutes late." He grimaces. "I don't like giving excuses, but there is a reason. And I hope you'll accept my apology. Hopefully you didn't have to wait long."
"Of course! No one's perfect, we just got here anyways, so we didn't have to wait too long." What a gentleman.... I couldn't believe how sweet he was. So not a jerk like other guys.
Greyson glanced over at O'rien. He leaned over and held out his hand. "Greyson Renning. A new friend of Cat's. Hopefully one she'll keep." He gave me another of his shy smiles.
"Well you'll just have to wait 'n see what she thinks. But just so ya know...." O'rien glanced around furtively as if telling a secret. "I'm rising in the ranks towards being her best friend, or so I hear. Just so you know." He winks at me and I just grin and shake my head.
Greyson just chuckles and raises his brows. "Is that so. Guess I'll have to step up my game."
"O'rien." O'rien nods and shakes Greyson's out held hand.
"Nice to meet you."
O'rien just looks at him for a couple seconds and I wonder what he's thinking. Then finally his face is goofy again. "Such a proper guy. Guess I won't have to beat you up after all."
A startled look comes across Greyson's face, causing O'rien to laugh.
"Hey, don't worry. Just looking out for Cat here."
A relieved look takes over Greyson's face. "Ah."
"So...." I join back in. Despite the joking tone, I don't want anything bad to break out between these two. Why do guys have such a hard time getting along? If only they'd give each other time and chances for a good impression rather than try to be the alpha male all the time. "Why were you late, Greyson?"
"Oh, right. So on my way out the door I heard a loud noise, and well, apparently my neighbor is horrible at backing up. I would've known that if I'd been here longer than 2 weeks but... So anyways my bike, all ready in the driveway? Crushed. Completely totaled. Luckily it wasn't anything special but...."
O'rien let out a guffaw. "Seriously dude?? For real? That's crazy."
"I'm not joking at all" Greyson let out a little chuckle as well. "Apparently my neighbor also has bad hearing. And sight. She just kept going and pulled out. Never looked back."
Now O'rien was shaking his head in disbelief and hysterically laughing.
"O'rien! Stop. That's rude." I frowned at him. "That's horrible Greyson. I'm really sorry."
"Well, it gives me a great true story to entertain people with." He grinned.
"How'd you get here then?"
