"Is he going to talk to you?" Alice asks softly. Her eyes show sympathy, but there's another unreadable emotion.
"I don't know." I admit. "I haven't spoken to him since Valentine's Day."
"Almost two weeks ago." Alice points out. "Aren't you worried that he'll move on?"
I shake my head. "He'd have the decency to at least tell me first."
Alice's face crumples in pain. "Lily, are you sure?"
My heart hits the bottom of my chest. "He's with someone else?" I ask bitterly.
"It looked like it."
"Oh. I guess, I hoped that he'd wait a little longer...Though, I guess we're technically already done."
"Lily, I'm so sorry. You deserved so much better than him."
I shake my head. "I knew the risks when I said yes to him."
"Lily, you don't have to be a hero about this. You can cry."
I sigh. "Tears won't help my broken heart."
The door opens and Remus walks in. His face looks paled and a long scratch covers his face.
"She doesn't want to see you." Alice says coolly.
"No, I have nothing against you, Remus."
"I assume you know what he's doing at the moment."
"Yes. I know."
"Lily, I'm so sorry that this happened."
"Can you tell me why he stopped loving me?" I ask.
Remus shakes his head. "Sirius and I have been grasping at straws for the last few weeks, trying to find something. I swear he wasn't using you though. He did love you."
"If he loved me, then why'd he stop?"
"I don't know what's going on in James' head. I don't think you did anything."
Sirius walks in. "He's been a player since about fourth year. The only idea that I've gotten is that he prefers that way of life."
Remus scowls at him. "That was quite harsh."
Sirius shakes his head. "There's no other way of explaining it."
"Well, you just implied that Lily got dumped, because he loved being a player more than he loved her."
"Did you two ever actually say it was over?"
"He did when he said maybe."
"You two ended your relationship on a maybe?" Sirius states in disbelief.
"Sirius! He told me that he loved me! Dammit! He told me that for two months. And then one day, it's a maybe? Love is supposed to be constant. Either you love someone or you don't."
"Lily, James is a moron for letting you go. James threw the best thing he had out the window. I'm a werewolf. I'll never find someone, who can love me like you loved him." Remus declares with a sad distant look in his eyes.
"No! One day, I promise you'll find a girl that will love you regardless of that!" I say stubbornly.
"Look, the bottom line is this: James is gone. I mean, he's still here, but he's not in love with you, Lily." Alice says.
"I know that, Alice!" I snap. "He left me! He isn't coming back! He doesn't love me!"
The portrait door opens and, of all people, James walks in. "Some sort of group meeting?" He questions with a smirk. "Why wasn't I notified? What a lovely conversation to walk in on!" He says sarcastically. He knows...
"Shut the hell up, Potter." I hiss.
"Oh, back to Potter, is it?"
"James, don't." Remus says seriously.
"What is she all upset that I don't love her?" James continues tauntingly.
"You played me. You told me that you loved me. I think that merits the right to be disappointed."
"Get used to it, Lily. You're going to be played. It happens." James says coldly."
"What the hell happened to you? You're an arse!" I turn and storm out of the room. Why is he acting like this? I don't understand. He's never been vindictive or cruel like that, even in the past...
I walk out to the lake and stare into the dark water below the ice. It will be spring soon, not that it matters. I had hoped that I could take walks with James around the lake once spring came, but now it looks like I'll be doing it alone.
Is my life cursed? I feel like a cursed princess in one of those stupid fairytales. Cursed to never be loved or have all love turn on you. The only difference is, it looks like I'll never get that happy ending with a Prince Charming. I've lost so many people. Petunia, Severus, Marlene, and James.
"I told you that he hurt you." A cold voice states behind me. Severus.
"Yeah, well, surprise, surprise, surprise. You've made your point." I roll my eyes.
He walks away.
I can't help but think of Valentine's Day. I can't believe he was going to spend the day with me if he didn't really care for me. Valentine's Day has never been a good day for me. In fourth year, I left a date covered in foul smelling goo. In fifth year, my date was making out with another girl. Sixth year: I decided that I didn't want to go, so I spent the whole day with a tub of ice cream. This year: I got dumped by James Potter. I hate Valentine's Day. And not because the pink clashes with my hair!
"Lily, you should come inside." Alice says gently as she walks up to me. "You'll freeze." She pauses. "James is in the hospital wing."
"What happened?"
"I taught him what happens when you mess with my best friend. He'll be fine- I think. Though, maybe that yellow hair is a side affect. The acme is bad enough that he won't be kissing any girls for a while." Alice muses.
"Bloody hell." I murmur with a tiny triumphant smile.
"If it's any consolation, James isn't okay- not from that. He's messed up. There's something else going on right now."
I shrug. "It doesn't matter. If you want to find out, go ahead. I'm done with James Potter."
But even as I say that, I know that this isn't the end.
........................
AN: hi guys! I know James is being very out of character and cruel, but I swear that the reason will come to light soon. All I will say is: Lily isn't the only one who is struggling with something.
I think that within about ten to fifteen chapters the story is going to wind down. That is not definite but it's the plan so far.
