[Trigger Warning: Abuse]

(Y/N)'s Point of View

I found myself frozen in place as the knife surged forward towards my face, slicing through my defenses as if they were nonexistent.

"How DARE you say that word?! How DARE you mention HER! She's DEAD, and you will be too if you EVER speak of this again!"

The words rattled in my frozen brain, all meaning consumed by the blood which was seeping rapidly from my flesh. I cowered in fear of the man towering over me. His presence was intimidating, as was the weapon he yielded which remained razor-sharp even after its seemingly endless attacks. A foreign expression of pure hatred contorted the man's face. His eyes shone with the intensity of a relentless killer. I did not know this man.

At the same time, however, I knew him more than anyone. After all, he was my father.

My eyes closed in a hazy trance as I faded from existence. The final vision I saw was a deep crimson drip, drip, dripping from the edge of the dagger. Then, without warning, there was only darkness.

I woke up, unaware of where I was or what I was doing there. My eyes searched the room, and I quickly recognized that I was lying on my own bed. This was the second observation I made. The first was the pain. It was unbearable, like a scorching flame had been permanently imbued upon my face. I clutched my head tightly, stumbling ungracefully out of my bed and to the nearest mirror. I leaned in close, and blinked my eyes as to clear my head.

What I saw in the mirror startled me beyond belief. I was within the mirror, yet, it wasn't me. Or rather, it wasn't the same me. A deep gash now made itself known upon my face. I traced the path of the injury from its beginning just below my left jaw, up, across my nose, and rightwards along my cheekbone. The gentle touch of my own hand felt like one thousand needles upon grazing the wound.

This was a punishment bestowed to me by my very own father. A punishment forever carved into my face for asking a simple question:

"Hey, Dad. Someday, can I be a hunter like Mom?"

Needless to say, I never expected something like this in response.

It's been 6 months since my mother passed away. She was a hunter. One day, she was found dead by means of assassination. Father was distraught. I always looked up to my mother, and wanted to be just like her. I still do, but things are different now. Ever since my mother's passing, my father has been filled with rage and extreme hatred. I never imagined he would take those feelings out on me, but my face clearly says otherwise.

The thought of my father filled me with fear. This was only the first time he'd attacked me. What would the next time be like? I was powerless in comparison to my father, who was also a hunter. I was only six, how could I do anything to stop him? Even if I tried to run away, I would surely be caught. I shuddered at the thought of what he would do to me then.

I closed my eyes. At first, I tried to hold back the tears, but despite my oppositions they flowed out anyways. Slowly at first, then faster, the drops leaked from my eyes and seeped downwards, burning my open wound. Before I knew it, I was sobbing, my eyes raw from the tears streaming down my face and my throat sore from the sobs being released.

"I need you now more than ever, Mom."

Well, that was the first chapter! Chapter probably isn't the right word to use, since it's only a short prologue, but regardless I hope you enjoyed! I've been super obsessed with Hunter x Hunter recently, and so I wanted to write a fanfic about it. I've also been wanting to write a fanfic book rather than just one shots. I'm not planning for this to be EXTREMELY long or EXTREMELY short, maybe around 15-20 chapters? I guess we'll just have to find out~

Also, just in case you're confused, this chapter is a flashback to your past. In this chapter, you're six, but in the rest of the story you'll be 18.

The next chapter should be up in a few days!
