(Y/N)'s POV

"Who are you?"

The mysterious man's words rattled through my head, over and over again. Why did he care? What was he thinking about me? Why me, of all people, did he choose to approach?

I steadied myself, attempting to inconspicuously take a deep breath. I turned toward my left to face him, to find he was still staring directly at me, a little too closely for my comfort. Our faces were mere inches away from each other, a rather close distance for two people who have never spoken a word in their lives to one another. Sure, he wasn't bad looking or anything, but he also seemed a bit too bloodthirsty for my liking. He gazed deep into my (E/C) irises without blinking, as if reading my mind.

Could I lie about my name to this man? Should I even try lying? He seems like the type of person to kill over something as trivial as that. I suppose I have no choice. So much for not associating myself with anyone during the exam.

I open my mouth to speak my name, returning the man's yellow gaze.

"(Y/N)."

My voice came out somewhat quietly, yet blunt and indifferent, exactly as I intended. Considering the simplicity of my response, the clown seemed to be oddly intrigued. Upon seeing his expression, you would think I had just told him my entire life story, not something as boring as my name. Strange.

I returned to my own thoughts, not bothering to ask his name. The hunter exam is the last place to make friends, especially when those potential "friends" appear to be killers. The night was silent for a moment, the only noise coming from the cool breeze which traveled through the air, and the quiet murmur from the other applicants. Soon, the man spoke again.

"(Y/N)... hmm. I was expecting something longer than that." His tone was serious, yet playful, as if he was trying to provoke me into starting some sort of pointless argument that would lead nowhere. I resisted the urge to speak back, simply biting my lip and returning to face the clearing. He acted similarly, returning to his own devices and nonchalantly shuffling through a deck of cards that seemed to appear out of thin air.

Despite my overall lack of interest, I couldn't help but sneak a peek at the man out of my peripheral vision every couple of minutes. Unlike me, he really was intriguing. He was an enigma. From the way he dressed, to his mannerisms, to his ominous presence, he was clearly different than all the other applicants. I couldn't help but be curious.

I peered at him. I couldn't see much from my side of the tree, but what I did see was confusing, if not amusing. He was carefully and precisely picking cards up, and stacking them one by one to form a house of considerable size. Other applicants were stressing over the exam, while he was choosing to play games and build a card house, of all things.

I shut my eyes in resignation.

"Just who is this man?"

Hisoka's Point of View

I felt a shift in the air as the aura beside me shifted and grew from a small, cautious aura to one expansive and calm. Interested in the change, I turned toward the girl. Her eyes were shut tightly, and she rested her head back against the hard wood of the tree. Her (H/C) hair was tousled, and fell (above her shoulders/to her shoulders/past her shoulders). Her legs were sprawled out in front of her, her slender arms were loosely crossed on her lap. From within her now emanated a powerful aura, albeit a relaxed one.

(Y/N), was that her name? (Y/N). A name that fell so naturally on my tongue, yet seemed incomplete. I'm curious as to why she decided to conceal her full name. She certainly is a mysterious girl, trying to hide herself from me, but no matter. I'm sure I'll learn what I desire to know about her in due time.
