I couldn't believe it - I wouldn't.
"It's alright," she told me in a sweet, hushed voice.
But how could it be?
My skin felt raw.
My brain felt like it was shrinking.
"It's alright," her voice promised again.
But my mistakes were running down my legs,
and I was soiling my favorite towel.
My heart was glass in a hurricane.
"It's alright," a hint of a hopeful smile this time.
I told the clouds to leave me alone.
I welcomed her sunshine that scared me so,
for it was all that let me grow.
It's alright.
I haven't made it up this mountain yet,
and I can't stop now.
