"Honey, are you home?" my mom yelled from downstairs.

"Yeah mom!! I have a friend over!" I yelled back.

"should we go down? I would like to meet your mom." Shawn asked.

"yep, sounds like a plan." I replied with a smile.

We walked downstairs and my mom was unloading groceries into the fridge.

"Hi, Mom. This is my friend Shawn. He just moved here from Pickering. "

"Hi Mrs. Hayes" said Shawn politely, sticking out his hand. I almost let out a laugh, an 18 year old doesn't shake hands. I love that Shawn does though because my mom will like him.

"Oh, please, call me Linda." She said with a smile.

We started to help my mom with the groceries. Shawn was so nice and I feel like he could actually become my best friend someday. I was excited to know more about him.

Once we were done helping my mom, I want to walk Shawn home. We headed towards the park and I stopped Shawn.

"Shawn?" I asked.

"Yeah Taylor?" he replied.

"Take this," I handed him my number, "call me later."

"Sounds good." Shawn said with a smirk.

--THE NEXT DAY--

I was eating breakfast and Shawn texted me.

[text]

Shawn: Can I come to your house so I can get on the bus with you?

Me: Of course. Bus comes at 8:40!!

[real life]

I finished my breakfast and my mom was already leaving for work. Usually if she left early for work, she comes home early. My mom works hard to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads. Most times when my mom is home early from work, something is happening.

It was 8:35am, so the bus was going to be here soon. I grabbed my house key and my backpack so I could wait outside. Once I got outside, I saw Shawn walking down the street to meet me here. I stuck up my hand in the air and waved.

"Hey Shawn!!" I yelled.

"Hey Taylor," he yelled back, "Where are we going to sit on the bus?"

He was close enough now that we didn't have to yell anymore.

"Not sure... There isn't enough space with Ella and Evie, so maybe where you were sitting yesterday?" I asked.

"Sure." He replied sweetly.

The bus arrived and as I stepped up the stairs onto the bus, I could see Ella and Evelyn's blonde buns peeking up from the seats. We walked to Shawn seat across from the twins.

The bus started to move as we sat down and Shawn and I talked the whole way to school.
