I taped the letter to the ledge, and slowly stood up, my legs shaking slightly.
Was I really scared about this? It's what I'd been wanting. What I'd been needing.
Shaking my head to clear my thoughts, I climbed onto the ledge, and looked down.
It was really damn high. My god. Maybe this was a bad idea. But.. I needed to pull through with it. For the research.
My phone started buzzing in my pocket. Sighing, I pulled it out, flipping it open.
"Hello?"
"Claire! You were supposed to be home thirty minutes ago." My mother's voice said disapprovingly.
"I know mom, I'm about to leave Heather's place. I'll be home soon. Promise." I looked below me at the water 40 feet down.I was so damn close.
"Alright sweetie, be safe."
"Will do." I started to pull the phone away from my ear, but put it back. "Mom?"
"Yes?"
"I love you."
"I love you too, Claire. Now, hurry home, dear."
"Goodbye, mom." I whispered, hanging up the phone. I looked at it for a moment, before throwing it into the water.
"Hey! What the hell are you doing?!" A voice yelled from behind me. Sighing in frustration, I turned around ready to cuss the person interrupting me out. It was a guy around my age, his green eyes wide with panic as I swayed on the ledge.
"What the hell does it look like I'm doing?" I snapped, turning back around.
"Hey! Stop it! Get away from there!" I could hear his footsteps getting closer.
"Dude... Leave me alone. Just.. let me do this in peace. Please?" I turned back around to stare at him. I recognized him from my school. His brown shaggy hair was blowing around his face. To be honest, it made him look pretty damn hot. I think his name was Trevor?
"I'm not going to let you do this, Claire. Just step off of the ledge. Please."So he knew my name.He took a step towards me, holding out his hands.
"Poor choice of words there." I pointed out, inching my way backwards. I could almost feel the edge of the ledge.
"My god, why are you so damn stubborn?!" He snapped, glaring at me.
"Maybe because this is what I want, ass hole! Now, if you don't mind..." I turned back around. One of my feet slipped, and I grabbed onto the ledge for dear life. "Oh my god." I squeaked, looking down. It was so high.
Hold on, I'm coming. Just don't let go." Trevor ordered.
Hmm..."Thanks for trying to help me, Trevor. Read the note taped to the ledge, will you?"
"Claire... don't you dare."
"Goodbye." I let go of the ledge, and for about twenty seconds I was free-falling. I could hear and see Trevor yelling my name, looking at me over the ledge. When I hit the water, I was instantly dragged down in the current, my body thrashing around with the waves. My head kept breaking through the water.
Maybe God wanted me to live.
Suddenly, my foot got stuck on something. I was pulled back under the water, not having the chance to take a deep breath. I slowly stopped thrashing, and everything started becoming fuzzy. It was actually very calming. A white light made it's way towards me, and I stared at it with curiosity. Was that heaven?
