SOL
Tightrope by Walk the Moon
I knelt on the shotgun seat so I can reach the sunroof of my brother Winter's SUV. He laughed once I have opened it, then shook his head as he turned the stereo's volume up. Kasi and Greta, who are seated at the back squealed when they heard Tightrope in the air. They started singing when the first stanza came. Meanwhile, Kyrill and Kuya Carson, seated at the farthest back of the car cussed at the girls' ear-shattering high-pitched screeches.
"Come on, girls, you didn't have to shriek like banshees!" Kyrill grumbled, scratching his ear.
"Like I can help it! You knew I just met Walk the Moon, Kuya Kyrill!" Greta reasoned, her eyes glimmering like a fangirl daydreaming. It's just that it's already almost midnight.
"Man, fangirls gonna fangirl. Even if they've met them several times already," Kuya Carson commented then chuckled.
"You bet!" agreed Kasi, then went back to singing.
Winter and I looked at each other and chuckled at the silly banters of our cousins.
Earlier this night was WTM's concert in our city, which we attended of corurse. We wouldn't want to miss it for the world. We even availed the VIP tickets which include a meet-and-greet with the band, a soundcheck pass, and freebie official merchandise. It was definitely pricey, but undeniably worth every peso we spent.
My brother, cousins, and I have been huge fans of the band since Day One and we've attended every concert they've held in our country. There've also been a couple of their overseas concerts that we've attended because there wasn't any in here and we don't want to be left out. Those were the times when they weren't as big and famous in our country as they are now.
We sang along to their songs, old and new, like we haven't had enough from their concert a few hours ago, as we drove into the night. All the windows are rolled down, and the sunroof is open, so the evening breeze freely brushes against our skin. Greta even thrusted her left arm outside the window beside her, which Kuya Carson grabbed back in just in time before a car on the other lane sped past us.
"You're crazy, Greta!" I yelled at her out of concern.
She laughed like it wasn't a big deal. "Geez! I was just feeling the breeze. Nothing to worry about, Ate Sol."
I crinkled my nose when I heard her call me ate. "Oh gosh, Gret. Stop calling me ate. I'm not that old!"
"But you are our ate. You're a year older like Kuya Winter and Kuya Kyrill," justified Kasi before snickering with Greta.
Winter and Kyrill joined me in groaning at their teasing. Kuya Carson, who is twenty-five and two years older than the three of us, laughed with the girls.
"By the way, are we still going to the bar or...?" asked Winter who is behind the wheel right now. We were supposed to ride Kuya Carson's car but Tita Alice wouldn't let her sons drive this late at night after the two met a car accident almost a year ago.
It wasn't that serious, but Kyrill got a fracture in his left arm which took months to recover while Kuya Carson got a concussion that lasted for two and a half weeks. Apparently, Kuya Carson's car lost its break that night when the two were home-bound, coming from a friend's party. It was a good thing that they weren't driving that fast, but just enough for them to take in such impact when they hit a huge tree. They almost got in jail due to driving under the influence of alcohol, but their lost break has been proven to be the cause of the accident, so they only received a light penalty.
